It’s our 10yr anniversary!! Thank you all for being a part of this journey! For your support & cocreation! We couldn’t do it without us! BDC, has created so many beautiful friendships, memories & rhythms. Im gratefull for this community! ❤️

I didn’t actually create this fb page. When I moved to Boulder, I assumed there was a thriving community drum circle. And I wanted to be a part of it!! I didnt know how to play. I saw a post by this page & went. It was just me and the actual page founder. We drummed together every weekend for maybe a month, but noone else came to join us. He then told me he was leaving Boulder & suggested I take over the Boulder Drum Circle fb page. I accepted. Ive regretfully forgotten this mans name. But I’m grateful for him. I continued to post events & drum in Central Park, often by myself. But, eventually, a community blossomed. I had only picked up 2-3 rhythms from other drum circles and I depended on the community to colead & teach me new rhythms at every gathering.

I was hungry to learn about Djembe, the traditions, rhythms & technique. Luke Kende quickly became a friend & mentor. He suggested I take somee lessons & introduced me to Abdoul Doumbia & Tober Schorr. And thats when the world of traditional West African and Mandangue music opened up to me.

Djembe is a gift to the world! It was a beautiful, rich, heritage and tradition. It is an instrument of peace, of celebration and of unity. The more you give yourself to djembe music the more it blesses your life. If you stand by it, it will teach you much about yourself and the world. Djembe builds strength in body, minds and spirit. It builds confidence & humility simultaneously. It gives voice to that which is beyond words. If you listen closely, you may hear the voice of mother nature and the many many generations of djembe players who carry these lineages & passed down these sacred rhythms.

It’s truely an honor & a privilege to have a relationship with this music & to share it with my community!

I want to acknowledge & thank my teachers and those who have helped me on this path: Abdoul Doumbia, Fara Tolno, Tober Schorr, Tim Dabrowski, Luke Kende, Nate Vellinga, Michael Mesto, Alya Sylla, Gregg Hansen & Aurthor Hall.

Aloha Boulder Drum Circle community! It’s been a while... I took a hiatus to prevent burnout & reprioritize. And I’m excited to gather and drum together again this summer!

I’ve continued to drum almost daily & study with my teachers. Have you been playing lately? Are you ready to circle & play together again?!

I’m scouting out new locations & im open to suggestions. Ideally, a public outdoor park for summer with easy & close parking, not too close to residences, with bathroom access near by. Any recommendations are welcome.

In rhythm,
Prasad Katz
