If I can't get it from Herbalstead Ohio then I order it from Mountain Rose Herbs

I have been asking multiple times who their suppliers are. Guess what? I told you we were going around the major retailers, so now we’re going to bring out their suppliers so you know exactly who we will start going to more and more.
Mountain Rose Herbs told us they are unable to share their supplier information because it is proprietary and because of privacy concerns for their farm partners. I respect their right to say that, but international trade and shipping records can reveal companies that ship directly to major retailers. So I started digging—and what I found is exactly why we have been working toward going closer to the source.

One trade dataset identifies 117 suppliers connected to 1,594 recorded import shipments for Mountain Rose Herbs. India alone accounted for 1,083 of those shipments—67.94%, basically 68% of all the recorded imports in that dataset. China accounted for about 6.71%, Turkey 2.89%, Sri Lanka 2.82%, and Ecuador 2.76%. A newer trade directory identifies 113 suppliers, although not every supplier name is freely visible without a paid subscription.

Now here is where it gets interesting. Some of the suppliers we can identify through trade records include Phalada Agro Research Foundation Pvt. Ltd., Cultivator Natural Products Pvt. Ltd., Carmel Organics Pvt. Ltd., Greenfield Bio Plantations Pvt. Ltd., Bergwerff Organic India Pvt. Ltd., EOAS Organics Pvt. Ltd., Geo Fresh Organic, Bio Foods Pvt. Ltd., Demar di Pesare & C. SRL, Ecoandino S.A.C., Sanmahaphon Organic and Herbal Products, Filipi Co., Honeygreen S.A., Herbiotech Aroma SA, Zhejiang Tea Group Co. Ltd., Shijiazhuang Sarchi Trade Co. Ltd., Naturalin Bio-Resources Co. Ltd., Enio Bonchev Production Ltd., Inka Fresh SAC, Triunfo do Brasil Ind. e Com. Ltda., and Sociedad Agricola y Forestal Casino. These aren't simply companies selling similar herbs; these names appear in trade records connected with shipments to Mountain Rose Herbs.

And some of the actual products in those records tell an even bigger story. Shipments include ashwagandha, amla, soapnuts, Triphala, senna, cumin, calendula, chamomile, catnip, licorice root, maca, ginger, chia, cacao, butterfly pea, lemongrass, roselle, turmeric, bilberry, blackberry leaf, bee pollen, basil, lemon verbena and thyme, among other botanicals. Some individual shipments weigh thousands of kilograms.

This is exactly what I have been talking about with Yahuah’s Farm. I don't want to spend the next ten years simply becoming another retailer buying everything from another retailer. When we can responsibly go closer to the growers, processors and original wholesale suppliers, that is exactly what we're going to work toward doing. It isn't going to happen overnight, and not every exporter will sell to a farm our size, but now we know where to start knocking.

The goal isn't to tear another herbal company down. The goal is transparency and getting closer to the source. I want to know where our herbs came from, how they were grown, what certifications and testing stand behind them, and eventually build direct relationships wherever possible. If we can cut another middleman out while maintaining or improving quality, that savings can be passed along instead of simply adding another markup.

We're going around the major retailers whenever we can. Now we have names, countries and a trail to follow—and we're going to keep following it. 🌿

BELT and potato tots (Kroger)
We love the taste of beef bacon. This comes from Full Flavor Meats out of Kettlersville OH. Mr. Matt, the farmer, can be found on Saturdays at the Toledo Farmers Market at the Erie Street Market and most Wednesday evenings at the Maumee Farmers Market. No nitrates or nitrites. Beef is fed with food grown on their farm, no hormones, no antibiotics. They also have lamb, chicken and pork. Look for the red truck with the white trailer.

Last night for dinner we made a hash from red and yellow beets from the garden, rainbow carrots and potatoes from the farmers market and some local stew meat. It was roasted in the oven all on one sheet pan.
Bonus is when you make a breakfast hash with fresh eggs and sourdough toast for breakfast the next morning.
