A single patient

Two very different weight loss results

Starting weight 350lbs

Dietary protocol 1

Goes on a “traditional healthy diet”

Eats lean proteins (chicken, fish) lots of vegetables (50% of plate is vegetables), whole grains (Ezekiel bread)

Loses 100 lbs, but sees his joint pain worsen, develops Atrial Fibrillation and has to be medicated for it

Diet proves to be unsustainable, backslides and ends up at 380 lbs, still with severe joint pain and has A -Fib episodes 3-4 times per weak

Dietary protocol 2 (4 years later)

Goes on Carnivore diet (Fatty red, meat, eggs, seafood)

Also loses close to 100 lbs

This time joint pain completely resolves

A-fib also resolves, cardiologist has him wear monitors for weeks at a time to confirm and finally discontinues his medications (beta blocker and blood thinner)

Finds diet sustainable and maintains weight loss and is free of symptoms for now four years

It’s all about caloric deficit for the weight loss? Why the very different result with regard to disease resolution?

These are things I see on a regular basis

Maybe there is more to health than just eating in a deficit?

For 9 years, he did everything right. Vegan. Clean eating. High fiber. Doctor-approved. He was healthy. Then he had a heart attack anyway.
