🚨 Attention Patients: The Redbird Smith Health Center’s parking lot is being resurfaced this week. When arriving for your appointment, please expect temporary parking changes and the possibility of a longer walk.

In the meantime, staff is continually monitoring the parking lot and assisting patients. All appointments will remain as scheduled, and the parking lot is expected to return to normal next week. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these improvements!

The Cherokee Nation held its third annual Rare Disease Summit on October 7 at the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center campus, bringing together health care professionals, medical specialists, and the community to better address the unique challenges facing tribal citizens with rare medical conditions.🦓 ❤️

Cherokee Nation’s health care system, the largest tribally operated health system in Indian Country, is committed to finding solutions and increasing resources for people with rare disease conditions by raising awareness, advocating for policy change, and building a growing support network.

Cherokee Nation’s W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex, satellite offices, and health centers will be closed Monday, October 12, for Indigenous Peoples Day!

Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital and Cherokee Nation Claremore Emergency Department, along with other tribal emergency services, will remain open.

Dr. Dustin Beck represented Cherokee Nation today at the Oklahoma State Capitol during Senator John Haste’s interim study on the residency pipeline and graduate medical education funding.

As director of the OMECO & Cherokee Nation Family Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Beck highlighted the program’s work to train physicians and expand access to care in rural Oklahoma.

Wado to Dr. Beck for sharing Cherokee Nation’s experience and to Senator Haste for bringing attention to this important issue.

Cherokee Nation was among eight sites in the country to be awarded the federal STREETS grant, through the new Safety Through Recovery, Engagement, and Evidence-based Treatment and Support (STREETS) program from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The funds mark a significant investment in improving health and wellness for Cherokee Nation citizens most at risk for mental health challenges, substance use disorders and housing insecurities.

Administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), STREETS will provide $96 million total over four years to help communities build coordinated systems of care for people who are homeless and have serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders, according to HHS.

Join us in congratulating Michelle Barnoskie on her retirement! 🥳 Michelle began her career at W.W. Hastings Hospital in 1996 in the Housekeeping Department. After 30 years of dedicated service, the EVS Department recently celebrated Michelle and her retirement with a special retirement lunch! We are grateful for the many years of hard work and dedication Michelle has given to W.W. Hastings Hospital and our community.
