Tis the season for the seasonal ick...coughs, runny noses, congestion, etc...I currently have Immunity Bundles available that are comprised of my favorite herbal allies (grown and processed right here on our farm) for boosting the immune system and kicking out the crud. The bundle is $30 and includes:

1 package of Immunity Tea blend
1 bottle of Elder & Aronia Berry syrup
1 bottle of Fire Cider
1 bottle of Echinacea tincture

For locals in the Jasper or Ellijay area, I have weekly produce/product distribution on Wednesdays. We can also coordinate a pick-up on the farm. For anyone who isn't close by, I also ship! Dm me for more details or to place an order. Wishing you vibrant health in the new year!

Food as medicine has been a significant part of my life's work for nearly 20 years. The power of plants and their ability to positively impact human health is truly amazing! This is one of the many reasons that I have utmost respect for plants.

Fire Cider is one of my favorite remedies and beautifully illustrates the notion of food as medicine. Recipes for this pungent tonic vary from one herbalist to another. Mine is made of roots (garlic, ginger, horseradish, onions & turmeric) spices (peppercorns), herbs (parsley, rosemary & thyme), citrus (lemons & oranges) and hot peppers (habaneros), combined with raw apple cider vinegar and local (to North Georgia) honey. The addition of honey helps the medicine go down...it softens the intensity of the hot peppers and coats the throat.

I love the entire process of making the cider. From growing the plant ingredients (with the exception of the citrus...I outsource from a reputable organically-grown source), to harvesting/processing them, even taking the pungent remedy or offering it to my community.

In my household, we take the cider at the first sign of a scratchy throat or the sniffles. I often refer to it as the "I don't have time for this remedy," because as a busy Farmama...I truly don't have time to be sick.

I usually prefer to take it by the tablespoon shot. My husband likes to add it to juice or water to dilute it. Others prefer to take it in juice or water, or to use as a dressing for greens or salads.

I pressed and bottled a fresh batch of Fire Cider tonic this week and the inventory has been added to my shop. Check out the link below for more details on how to get your hands on my Fire Cider, as well as other herbal remedies that grown and produced on our farm.

Rainy afternoon greenhouse vibes have me dreaming of Spring. There is something so relaxing about listening to the rain drops hit the plastic stretched over the hoops of the greenhouse.

This afternoon, I seeded Echinacea purpurea, garlic chives, basil and poppies. I've seeded countless numbers of trays over the years and I still can hardly wait for the seeds to sprout.

The forecast says rain for days, so you know where I will be...

Scenes from our farm on a recent walk...a taste of both Winter and Spring, in all of their splendor!

Winter's frigid grip on the landscape is easy to find in the early mornings when plants (such as Motherwort) are cloaked in a heavy frost and shallow water is frozen solid. I can't help but revel in the artistry of the natural world!

Spring is also very clearly on its way! Evidence of the coming season are found in the emergence of new life (the first ginseng sprout and elderberries leafing out) and the first dandelion sighting of the year!

I grow an heirloom Burley type to***co (from Kentucky) for a personal smoking blend. I decided to save the seeds from last year’s crop and wow are they abundant! The seeds are smaller than a poppy seed and each of the individual pods (shown in the video below) contain thousands of seeds. Message me for details if you’d like a pack of to***co seeds.

Consistent cold mornings seem to be the norm now, which means hot tea is a necessity! I’m working on a new tea blend this morning. It is a balanced blend of calendula flowers, catnip, chamomile, holy basil, raspberry leaf, skullcap and spearmint. The flavor is mildly fruity and smooth. The effect of the blend is calming (thanks to the catnip, holy basil and skullcap). I have a feeling this will be a staple in our household this Winter, since the kids love it. Hopefully it will help keep the peace on days when we are indoors more often than not. Stay tuned for the addition of to our farm shop…coming soon!
