Crazy to think 3 years ago I was waiting for the crazy planning of my double mastectomy W/diep flap reconstruction and getting all the doctors on the same day with an OR!! Was supposed to be a 6-8 hour surgery ended up to be a little over 13! But sooo blessed to be almost to that 3 year mark !!🦩🩷🦩🩷🦩🩷

Sooooooo it’s been a minute!
The last few weeks held alot of emotions with “trigger dates” and appointments. But a lot of great moments and new goals for my journey

3/9- anniversary of three years ago having my biopsy
3/10 - appointment with Medical oncologist to review how the changes of medicine is going in my overall health. Including take certain steps to help my weight loss journey, that previously were not agreed-upon .
3/13 - anniversary of three years ago being diagnosed with breast cancer
3/19 - appointment with plastic surgeon for a possible third revision (plan will be to check in in six months with the goals that I have reach some of my weight loss, goals, and possibly look at a surgery date)
3/19 - appointment for MRI of both hips as I have daily and nightly pain on both sides.
3/20- get the results of the MRI in my chart and have the pleasure of being told that everything looks great except for “normal aging” & bilateral gluteal minimus/medius tendinitis.

(And IYKYK all the other stuff happening over the last few weeks)

The great thing all of this is manageable and honestly, it’s helping me focus more on my diet and workout routines. So it was interesting when I was at my lifting class tonight I happen to mention my friend Julie Adams Evangelista and how we used to go to the gym back when I was out of college my first job. And came home to the sweet surprise in the mail from her day.

Yup this journey is crazy, longer than I wouldn’t expected, but still been blessed by so many people along the way! 🩷🦩🩷🦩🩷🦩🩷🦩🩷🦩🩷🦩

Sooo with my Strength for Life lifting group we get a day 3 workout 🏋️ to do on our own. So my little makeshift gym
- yoga mat
- 10lb bar and a 25lb bar Mario made
- 5lb and 8lb dumbbells
- Thera bands

I made it work- anyone have some equipment laying around that they don’t use let me know. Not rejoining a gym yet with upcoming procedures and Mario’s gym well is near the strawberry 🍓 festival so decided not to deal with traffic!!

Also remembered when the girls danced the choreographers at one point had the wear sports bra /dance tops to get comfortable with their body and upcoming costumes. Not that I am putting on a costume but working on accepting my “body” so trying their trick! And yes I need to color my grays!!!

🦩💕🏋️‍♀️💕🦩💕🏋️‍♀️💕🦩💕🏋️‍♀️💕🦩💕

Working out shifts my thoughts and worries about test results and upcoming appointments!

02/10/2026

Just a little Capt Flamingo Update! Prayers over the next few weeks during testing and appointments welcome! And extra prayers that the antibiotics kick in fast!!!!

Yup if it’s going to happen it’s going to happen to me!

Week FOUR of Barbell Beginnings complete 💪✨

This week reminded me that progress isn’t always about how much weight you lift — sometimes it’s about how well you can pivot.

Planks have always been a challenge for me. And for reasons I still don’t fully understand, this week (and a few past weeks) they triggered left-side/kidney pain. Not ideal. Not predictable. And definitely humbling.

But here’s the real win 👉 learning to accept when a movement just isn’t the right one for that moment… and knowing it’s okay to choose a different option.

I’m incredibly grateful for a coach who sees it before I even have to say it — who offers modifications without judgment, while still encouraging me and believing I could complete the original movement if it was safe to do so. That balance of support and challenge? That’s everything.

This journey is teaching me that strength isn’t just physical.
It’s listening to your body.
It’s adapting instead of quitting.
It’s showing up anyway.

And sometimes… it’s holding a plank, sometimes it’s choosing a different path — both are still progress. 💗

** PS have test for my kidney next week so hopefully some answers!
