Like so many other small businesses, Cultured was gravely impacted by COVID-19 and many other hurdles that minority-owned businesses face at a disproportionate rate.⠀
•⠀
Cultured Kombucha's lack of seed funding at launch reflects a general trend among African American businesses, especially those started by women. The anemic seed capital quickly caught up when COVID-19 devastated businesses across all sectors.⠀
•⠀
But the pause is just preparation for the comeback. We appreciate the outpouring of people wanting to do something to support the movement. Here it is: black women-owned businesses are the future of the movement. Thank you for supporting the campaign.

Glad to see morale boosted in DC ✊🏾. If we haven’t met, hello! I’m the founder of Cultured Kombucha. ⠀

And I hope that everyone who truly cares about this topic does real investigation into reform. We have all seen an uptick in corporate messaging, and quick, photogenic displays of “solidarity”. Don’t be fooled, and don’t stop there.⠀
•⠀
Amidst the Covid pandemic, Cultured put a pause on production that will remain indefinitely. we will be taking this time to re-envision our educational partnerships and operations, which were integral to the success of our mission, but constantly competing with the burnout of a one-woman-show. ⠀
•⠀
Cultured was never meant to be a bottle on the shelf, it was a movement to educate and catalyze black and brown people’s interest in our health. That movement still matters, so Cultured still matters. And with adequate funding, a re-envisioned operating model, and some more staffing, we’ll be back in full force. ⠀
•⠀
Until then, black people keep your heads up and don’t let the significance of our lives being the shiny, new thing be the end of this journey. This increased attention is only the commercial break after the opening credits. Stay tuned and watch for action and reform to back up these gestures. ⠀

We heard your chants and here it is: Kombucha brewing 101!

Brew your own kombucha while learning the history, benefits, tips and tricks. You’ll set your gallon of kombucha up for its first ferment and learn the differences in fermentation and ways to tweak your home brew to suit your unique palette. All of the supplies are yours to keep to brew your own kombucha at home, including everything to be your own mad scientist with flavoring your batch brewed during the workshop.

All materials are provided and you’ll leave with the resources and supplies to brew this health-promoting drink at home.
