Faith isn't measured by what happens to you. It's measured by what you do.

You can't control every twist of pregnancy and birth. You can control where you place your trust.

Where does your mind go first when a worry hits. Does is go to God, or Google? Do you lean on the Lord for direction or lean towards self-reliance?

We spend a whole lesson on this and other Biblical Truths in class, because how you answer that question shapes your entire birth.

Low-risk, healthy pregnancies can give birth without intervention.
Our bodies were created through God’s intelligent design.
When we steward our bodies well during pregnancy and prepare our minds by collecting the tools and knowledge we need for labor, it is possible to enter into labor with peace and confidence.
You were created with purpose, and your body was designed for this.

You don't think you need it... but you do.

You need childbirth education.

A common thought is:
"Women have always given birth."
Or,
"My doctor will tell me what to do."

But just because you have legs and can run doesn't mean you're ready for a marathon.
The same is true for labor.

God gives us 40+ weeks to prepare our hearts, our minds, our bodies, and our homes to welcome our babies into the world. Why wouldn't we also prepare for the birth itself?

Don't skip something as essential as childbirth education.

Some benefits of childbirth education:
•Studies have shown there’s a reduction in the use of interventions.

•Increased rate of vaginal birth reduces the length of stay at a hospital, lowers infection rates, and quicker recovery.

What is a contraction? 🤰
A contraction is the tightening of a muscle. Every time you move or lift something, your muscles contract. During labor, your uterus (yes, your uterus is a muscle! ) contracts and tightens to help move your baby down the birth canal.
Contractions can be felt across your abdomen, in your back, and even down your legs. Many people describe them as more intense period cramps, but every labor is different.

Contractions happen in waves. They have a beginning, build in intensity, reach a peak, and then slowly ease off before the next one begins. Depending on where you are in labor, they can last anywhere from 20 to 90 seconds.

When timing contractions, there are two things to pay attention to:
⏱️ How long each contraction lasts
⏰ How much time passes between contractions

A common rule of thumb for when to call your midwife or head to the hospital is the 5-1-1 Rule:
✔️ Contractions are 5 minutes apart
✔️ Last at least 1 minute
✔️ Continue for 1 hour
Remember, this is a common rule of thumb. Every labor can progress differently and always follow the advice of your provider.
