Just a friendly reminder that every parent I work with completes a comprehensive, detailed intake before I make any clinical recommendations.

When someone asks a breastfeeding question via DM and/or text, the answer is rarely as simple as it seems.

Before providing guidance, I assess factors such as:

🍼 Feeding history
👶 Baby's health history and growth
🤱 Maternal health history
👄 Infant oral function and anatomy
🩺 Breast and ni**le assessment
🥛 Milk transfer and feeding effectiveness
📋 Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum factors

Without these things, I cannot responsibly provide individualized clinical recommendations, even when I genuinely want to help.

What works for one parent-baby dyad may be completely inappropriate for another.

Breastfeeding support is not one-size-fits-all, and your family's situation deserves more than a quick answer.

If you're struggling with feeding, I encourage you to schedule a consultation so we can look at the whole picture and create a plan that's right for you and your baby.

Today, I had the privilege of serving families at my 2nd diaper distribution, and the turnout was a powerful reminder that these resources are not just appreciated, they are needed.

We were able to provide diapers, clothing, and other essential items to local families, while also connecting parents with breastfeeding support, community resources, and encouragement.

A huge thank you to the amazing community partners and vendors who helped make this event possible:

✨ Healthy Families Lake/Sumter/Marion
✨ Gabriel Therapy Group
✨ Help Me Grow Lake County
✨ Junior League of Ocala

Because of your generosity families left knowing they are supported.

The reality is that many families in Sumter County are facing difficult choices between purchasing diapers, paying bills, buying groceries, and meeting other basic needs. Today's turnout confirmed what we already knew: there is a significant need for accessible family resources right here in our community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and shared this event.

Here's the thing, when you work with a private practice IBCLC, we get to make our own schedules, which means we can work some pretty crazy hours. I've got three little kids at home, and I need to be able to pick them up from school, or take them on a field trip, or just hang out. If I worked in a hospital, I wouldn't be able to do home visits on a Saturday, or answer your questions at 8pm. I'm not on call, but I do work some pretty non-traditional hours.

The thing is, when it comes to breastfeeding support, private practice and hospital care are just not the same. In a hospital, the IBCLCs have to see so many people in one shift, they just can't give you the kind of attention you need all the time plus many challenges show up after discharge.

I get to spend way more time with you, figuring out what's going on with your baby's weight gain, or your milk supply. It's just a totally different experience. So, it's really important to get ready for breastfeeding before your baby arrives, so you're not caught off guard as you're moving through all the different stages of care.
