Plant spacing rules are for farmers and not for gardeners!

This collard green plant is growing next to:

》green beans
》marigolds
》green onions
》celery
》spinach
》another collard green

This collard is jammed packed because mulched it with plants all around it. This means there are:

》no weeds
》an ecosystem
》decrease number of pests
》better soil
..and it is growing in a 2 foot tall raised garden bed!

The fact that collards need to grow in the ground and need 18 inches apart is a lie!

You need to mulch with other plants!

Or in other words...
Intensive planting!

That is the difference between basic and beautiful gardens!

Because the gardens that I grow are ranked the most beautiful in my city!!!!

I swear by this planting method for a few reasons:

》I live by a park with a load of animals
》I do not use chemicals
》I rarely cover my garden at night

How does this work??

I plant my gardens intensively.

This means all of the smells blend together in a way that confuses the animals. I cannot guarantee that they won't take a bite of your food.

But what I can say is that they will be less likely to kill it , because the smells will irritate them , they will get confused and they will move on to your neighbor's yard.

I did a little experiment on this.

I have a collard green patch with no flowers, no succulents like dusty millers, or herbs. That garden gets consistently killed by garden animals , including deer. They are smelling only one thing, which is your food.

On the flip side, if you plant a diversity of crops, you will confuse them!

Cabbage worms and other pests eat your garden because there is no diversity in plants.

But the BEST gardens include:
2 kinds of 🌸 Flowers
2 kinds of 🌿 Herbs
2 kinds of 🪴 Texture plants like succulents

Why?

Because flowers attract pollinators.

Herbs protect your garden (and they taste so so good!!)

Texture plants make your space feel beautiful even when veggies are struggling.

That’s how you build a garden that actually feels EASY.

I made this deadly mistake too , until I figured it out!! I was shocked to learn that flowers, herbs, and texture plants actually bring in good bugs that eat up the bad pests like cabbage worms that eat your garden!!

Water Your Plants Today!

I cut off my basil flowers so flowers because all the energy can be spent on producing beautiful leaves. When you keep the flowers on, the basil plant is less potent.

This is the opposite of mint. When mint flowers, that means the plant is potent!
