Edited to update 🚨

Thanks to Madison Physical Therapy and a huge shoutout to our girl, Ashley, Zalie now has 13 sessions instead of just one! Thank you Jesus for favor and putting the right support around us! šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Zalie had physical therapy yesterday. It’s so weird that her left leg is her strong leg right now. She’s very determined to recover and come back better than ever! Hopefully insurance will cooperate šŸ™„ right now they are only approving for 1 therapy session. I will never understand why the best for my child is not decided by her doctors.

I don’t recommend flying just 48 hours after surgery. Lesson learned. However, Zalie rocked it like she does everything else. I know that’s God giving her strength to smile through the pain. Thank you to Miracle Flights for covering our airfare! It’s a huge burden off of our shoulders.

It’s so good to be home but I am missing that sunrise šŸŒ… this morning 🌊😁 Now, time to recover and get mobility back.

Last goodbyes to our home away from home. We will be back in Missouri tonight. Despite all of the trials, this has always been a beautiful place to heal. Zalie’s pain has been manageable. Praying she can be pain free and relax through our travels home. Thank you everyone for your love and prayers. šŸ¤

She’s cracking jokes at my expense. I’ll gladly take it. Scans were reevaluated. They are only doing one plate instead of two. Praise be to God! They are operating now.

Every morning, before the world wakes up, I find myself walking along the ocean as the sun begins to rise. This has become my quiet time with the Lord, and I honestly don’t know if words can fully capture what these mornings have meant to me.

Standing at the edge of the ocean reminds me just how small I am and how incredibly big, majestic, and glorious God is. The endless horizon, the crashing waves, the colors He paints across the sky—creation continually points me back to the greatness of our Creator.

This morning there was a small storm over the water. The wind was stronger, the clouds were darker, and the waves were restless. But then the sun began to rise.

It’s incredible what light does to darkness.

In just a matter of moments, everything changed. The darkness gave way to light, peace replaced uncertainty, and I was reminded that the same God who speaks light into darkness is the One who calms the storms in our lives. He doesn’t change because the skies are cloudy. His power isn’t diminished by the wind and the waves. He is still faithful. He is still sovereign. He is still good.

The song that has been on my heart all morning says it perfectly:

ā€œLord, You are more precious than silver.
Lord, You are more costly than gold.
Lord, You are more beautiful than diamonds,
and nothing I desire compares with You.ā€

What a beautiful reminder that no matter what this world offers—or what storms we may face—nothing compares to Him.

As we prepare for Zalie’s surgery today, my heart is choosing to rest in that truth. The One who created this sunrise is the same One who holds the day in His hands.

Tomorrow is the day.

At 10:00 AM EST, we’ll check in for Zalie’s surgery.

So many of you have prayed, encouraged us, and walked this journey alongside our family. We can’t thank you enough. We would appreciate your continued prayers tomorrow—for wisdom for her surgeons and medical team, for a successful surgery, for a smooth recovery, and for complete healing.

I wish I could adequately describe how incredibly strong Zalie has been through all of this. Her faith has been unwavering. For someone her age, it’s truly remarkable. But we know where that strength comes from. We serve a God who is our ultimate peace and our strength, and He has faithfully carried her every step of this journey.

Today, the words of an old hymn have been on my heart:

ā€œI cast all my cares upon You.
I lay all of my burdens down at Your feet.
And anytime I don’t know what else to do,
I will cast all my cares upon You.ā€

That is exactly where we are today—placing every fear, every unknown, and every hope at His feet.

Thank you for continuing to pray for our sweet girl. We trust that God is already going before her, and we know He will be with her through every moment tomorrow. ā¤ļø

Zalie has been doing the doctor appointment thing all her life. These are throw backs from 10 years ago with Dr. Dobbs. She was quite entertaining in the early stages. šŸ˜‚

God has been showing up in the little details… and this is one we’ll never forget. ā¤ļøšŸ‘Ÿ

For years, buying shoes for Zalie has been anything but simple.

Because of the difference in the size of her feet, we’ve always had to purchase two pairs of shoes just so she could make one matching pair. Nike’s program has traditionally allowed a maximum difference of 1.5 shoe sizes. Zalie’s feet have been 6 sizes apart, so we didn’t qualify.

But God answered another prayer.

We met Stef, the assistant manager at the Nike Outlet in West Palm Beach, and she spent over an hour advocating for Zalie, making phone calls, and working through every possible option. She refused to give up.

Not only did Nike make an exception for Zalie, but they expanded their program guidelines to make this possible. And for the very first time ever, we were able to get the two different shoe sizes she needs for the price of one pair of shoes!

Even sweeter? One of the biggest challenges has always been finding the exact same shoe in both a children’s size and an adult size. Well… our girl has officially graduated into adult shoe sizes with her smaller foot too! 🄹 That means matching shoes are no longer nearly as impossible to find.

It may seem like a small thing to some, but to our family, it’s a huge blessing. It’s one more reminder that God truly cares about every detail of our lives. Sometimes He answers prayers through miracles, and sometimes He answers them through people who are willing to go far beyond what’s expected.

Stef, thank you for treating Zalie with such kindness, compassion, and dignity. We have never had someone go so far out of their way to help us, and we’ll never forget it.

And thanks to Stef and Nike… Zalie can finally have more than one pair of shoes! šŸ˜‚šŸ‘Ÿ

A busy day with some unexpected news. 🩵

At Zalie’s pre-op appointment today, after new X-rays, we learned that her genu valgum (knock knees) has continued to worsen in her right leg. Because she’s grown so much over the last year (which is a blessing!), the angle has increased more than expected.

The good news is that her doctors were able to catch it before surgery and adjust the plan.

Instead of placing one growth-guiding plate, they will now be placing two 8-plates in her right leg—one on the femoral (thigh bone) growth plate and one on the tibial (shin bone) growth plate. Since the valgus deformity is coming from both bones, this gives her the best opportunity for both legs to become as straight and well-aligned as possible as she continues to grow.

While it wasn’t the news we expected today, we are so thankful for thorough physicians, advanced imaging, and a team that is committed to giving Zalie the best possible outcome.

Thank you for continuing to lift our sweet girl up in prayer. We truly feel surrounded by your love and support. šŸ¤
