What a Day in Frankfort! 🌅
What an incredible morning on the IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan bike course!
We had a fantastic turnout for our first MiTri Preview Ride, with athletes traveling from across Michigan and beyond to preview one of the most scenic 70.3 courses in North America. Some riders tackled the full 56-mile course, others added extra miles on their own, with a few turning it into nearly a century ride. It was a morning full of learning, great conversations, and confidence-building before race day.
The weather was about as close to perfect as you could ask for in late July. We did battle a few headwinds in sections, but otherwise it was an outstanding day to experience the course.
A huge thank you to IRONMAN Michigan Race Director Joel Service and the entire IRONMAN team for their continued support of our preview rides. While Joel wasn’t able to join us today, we’re excited that he’s planning to join us for our next Preview Ride on Sunday, August 23.
A special shout-out goes to Ironman Mike, our IRONMAN SAG driver, who was out on the course all morning making sure everyone was safe and supported. Thanks for taking great care of our athletes!
A few observations from today’s ride:
✅ The climbs are shorter and more manageable than many athletes expect, ride your plan and don’t burn your matches early.
✅ The roads are in solid shape overall, but there are several long stretches where pavement seams and rumble strips run near the white line. Stay alert, choose your line wisely, and don’t ride too close to the edge.
✅ Double-check that everything on your bike is secure before race day. Tighten bottle cages, computers, repair kits, and anything else mounted to your bike. A few bumps can launch loose equipment if you’re not prepared.
Most importantly, every athlete finished with smiles, more confidence, and a better understanding of how to race this course.
If you missed our “How to Race IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan: Everything I Wish Someone Had Told Me Before My First 70.3” athlete presentation, don’t worry—we recorded it and will be sharing the YouTube link in the comments so you can watch it before race weekend. You’ll want to start it 32 minutes into the video. Here is the link: https://youtube.com/watch?v=SHYb5O7mUCs&feature=shared
If you couldn’t make today’s ride, we’d love to have you join us for our final Preview Ride on Sunday, August 23.
See you in Frankfort, and we’ll see everyone on the starting line in September!
