Yesterday, Maisie died in my arms.
She decompensated so quickly, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she’s gone.
She was only 10 years old, but she had lived an awful lot of life before she ever came to me in October of 2023. I knew when she became mine that I could never undo what came before me. I could only make sure that whatever time she had left looked completely different.
And Gods, I tried.
She had an extensive wardrobe of the softest, comfiest pajamas. She ate the highest quality food I could give her. She had warm beds, safety, comfort, ridiculous amounts of attention, and a home where she never had to wonder if she was loved.
I just wish I could have given her more time.
Two years and ten months was not nearly enough. If love could have saved her, she would still be here. If I could have loved the years she lost back into her, I would have.
But I hope that somehow, the small piece of her life that belonged to me was enough to show her what her entire life should have been.
Right now, my heart is shattered and I am grieving another loss that I simply was not ready for. 2026 is emerging as a year of profound loss for me but I know this is simply a season.
I may be slower than usual answering messages, emails, and everything else for a little while. Some patience and grace while I find my footing would be deeply appreciated.
Rest easy, sweet Maisie. I’m so sorry I couldn’t give you more years, but I hope you knew just how fiercely you were loved for every single day that I got to call you mine. 🤍
