Which poison prevention tool did you get?

All of these tools are great to have in your home to help prevent a poisoning from happening.

➡️Cabinet locks can help prevent children and pets from accessing things like household cleaners, vehicle liquids, insecticides and other items that one might store in cabinets.

➡️Carbon monoxide detectors detect the presence of carbon monoxide, an invisible gas, that can lead to poisoning or even death if an exposure goes undetected.

➡️Deterra Bags can be used to safely dispose of medications at home. These bags can be used for liquid, pill, or patch medications and will neutralize them making it safe to toss in your household trash.

➡️Narcan reverses the effects of opioids in the body in minutes. It’s easy to use and with the proper training anyone can administer Narcan.

Medications and candy often look similar in size, shape and color. Some children's medications sometimes even come in shapes that resemble cartoon characters that appeal to children. These things can lead to accidental ingestion resulting in a poisoning.

To help prevent a poisoning:
💊Keep all medications in a designated area away from food items.
💊Keep medications stored up and locked away from children's reach. You can use cabinet locks or medication lock boxes to help prevent children from accessing medications.
💊When giving children medications avoid referring to medications as candy.
💊Teach children the importance of asking a trusted adult before consuming anything, even if it looks like something that is safe to consume.

If you suspect a poisoning, call poison control at 1-800-222-1222. For severe symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

Pool chemicals are designed to maintain water safety and cleanliness. However, these chemicals can be hazardous if used incorrectly. When treating your pool with chemicals, read the label and follow directions for use. Keep children (and pets) away from the pool when chemicals are being used. Avoid swimming in the pool immediately after pool chemicals have been used in the pool; wait the directed amount of time before entering the pool.

If you suspect a poisoning or experience symptoms after handling pool chemicals, contact your local poison center at 1-800-222-1222.

rattlesnakes can vary in color and patterning, even within the same species! This species is the Speckled Rattlesnake. As you can see here, this species varies in coloration and can be observed in brown/tan and even in white. Differences in coloration and patterning help rattlesnakes camouflage well into their environment helping to protect them from potential predators.

Sunscreen is important year-round but especially as we get into the time of year when the sun is most intense. Using sunscreen not only protects against sunburns but can also help prevent skin cancer.

When using sunscreen remember to:
-read the label and follow instructions for use
-Take caution when applying sunscreen near the eyes, irritation may occur if sunscreen gets in the eyes
-Be cautious when using aerosol sunscreen products as these products can contain flammable ingredients
-Store sunscreen and other personal care products away from the reach of children to prevent an accidental ingestion
