IN-PERSON CLASS SERIES ✨✨

Mid-coast Friends !

I’m excited to gather with you this summer.

Healing the Heroine is an outdoor offering that gets to the heart of healing our cycles.❤️

We’ll unpack the harmful stories we've inherited, the body shame and period secrecy.

We’ll ditch the narrative that taught us to disregard our emotional and intuitive wisdom.🙌

Then we’ll connect with the plants and practices that support our cycles, our ovaries & breast health.

To finish up, we’ll open the conversation about our ongoing work: how we can shift the narrative for the next generation?

If you’re interested in diving in with me this summer, classes begin June 27.🌸

Sliding scale and payment plans are available.

All info on the web - link in bio ✨

Reach out with your Qs and plz pass it on!

Naturopath by day / punk singer by night.

⚡️Seven years ago. ⚡️

Living a double life in Hobart, TAS.

Until it all came crashing down.

There are moments in your life that change it, forever.

Having ovarian surgery was one of those for me.

An opportunity.

To stop and listen.

So I did.

Now I live in Maine, and helping ya’ll tune in to the gifts of your cycling body is my passion.

On the blog today I’m sharing a more personal piece of writing, it’s just a snapshot really, of how I got here.

And why I care so much about the work I do. 🌸

It’s also the back-story to a class I’m offering this summer.

I’ll be a bit more vocal about that in the coming weeks so if you’re interested stay tuned.

The black flies have hatched and summer is on it’s way. 🌞

And you know what that means?

I get a lot more emails about va**nal infections! 😬

In the summertime people tend to have more s*x, spend a lot longer in synthetic wet swimsuits and make diet and lifestyle choices that are outside their norm.💦

How does that impact va**nal health?

Your va**na has it’s own microbiome and the balance of your microbiome plays a big role in common conditions like Thrush, UTIs and BV.

Supporting your va**nal microbiome is an often overlooked part of va**nal health - - so I’ve collated 13 easy things you can do to support your va**nal health and stay well this summer. 🌻

Welcome to the clinic.

This is the place where so much magic happens.✨

Where skins are shed and truths are revealed.

When people ask what I do, I usually say “I help people with period problems.”

But in reality I simply hold the container for you to tend your own healing and offer guidance where I can. 🌸

Inherited shame about our bodies, our periods and our s*xual selves runs so deep.

But you know what runs even deeper?

Your courage.

To the amazing people who’ve walked through this door, I applaud you.👏

Healing takes strength and vulnerability.

And though you mightn’t know it - each step you take is a massive reclamation with ripples far bigger than you can see.

That big, BIG work of healing our cultural narratives, our communities and our kin starts with you, showing up, just as you are. ❤️

If you’re working on healing your period and building a relationship with your body, you’re a superstar.⭐️

If you’re feeling unsure about your next step, have questions about your period or va**nal health - let’s chat.

You’re welcome to reach me via:

Or DM to schedule a free 15min call

🌻Please note friends - 1:1 session work will be limited over the summer, so now is a good time to connect. 🌻

I first learned to prune fruit trees years ago on a commercial Apple farm in Tassie when I was studying Horticulture. 🍎🍏

The pruning was relatively easy as the Trees were consistently tended.

You’d start out with the obvious - Dead, Diseased or Damaged branches.

Then you see what’s left… you snip out branches that are crossed, crowded or growing ‘inside’ the crown.

We learned to prune up to a third of growth at a time - an unpruned tree becomes burdened by excess fruit that grows sickly.

You leave the lovely laterals and the ones that fill in space - you want your tree to be healthy - and look good too.🍑

So you prune for health, aesthetics and of course - fruit production!

But even after all that - pruning is still hard for me. I’m so timid when it comes to ‘making the cut’. It requires decisive decision making and no regrets.✂️

I often grieve all those blossoms -that potential fruit I cut away!

It’s Beltane friends which means for those in the north we’re moving into the fiery expansive, abundant phase of our solar cycle.🔥

It’s easy to dream big and think of all the things we want to grow / do / be this summer but here’s the rub - not all your blossoms can bear fruit.

This is the same lesson you work with as you reach your pre—ovulatory phase - what creative project/s will you give life to this cycle?🌸

In saying yes - you also have to say no.

What are you willing to prune?

Period Apps and fertility tracking devices that predict your period and tell you when you’re fertile - are a big problem.

Why?🤷‍♀️

Your fertility isn’t static.

It’s a stress-sensitive process that responds to changes in your body and your environment.

The timing of your ovulation can change from cycle-to-cycle.

Which means Apps and devices that ‘predict’ fertile days and non-fertile days put users at risk for unintended pregnancy.

The other thing?

Most Apps share your *highly sensitive* data with advertisers.

But I hear you - Apps *can* be helpful tools for your charting practice - and if I’m honest I use an App too.

So which Apps are good to go?

On the blog i’m breaking down what you need to know about Period Apps and which are the Apps you can safely get behind!

I woke up this morning and I felt the wave crashing.

After a weekend of frolicking in the warm sun, I felt flat and grumpy and uninspired. ☹️

It was a bit of a shock really.

This is Phase #4 - the come down. 🎢

And it’s often the trickiest moment of your cycle.

During your pre-menstrual transition your energy drops from it’s ovulation high and you can feel less motivated, less focused and less available.😒

This is when you come to face the power - the teaching moment - of your cycle.

How have you been taking care of yourself?
Where are the tension points in your life?
What needs to shift?

This morning I felt the wave crash - and now I know it’s time to step back, to support my nervous system and tend to my needs.🌻

Where are you at on the wave today? And how do you work with the shifting energy of your cycle?

When I moved to rural Maine (from east coast Australia), I thought I’d have to give up the waves.

The ocean up here is beautiful - but a myriad of inlets and islands means there isn’t a lot in the surf department.

But last week a bunch of rad surfer women changed everything for me.

Paddling out in a supportive circle reminded me just how much surfing brings us in to connection with each other, with ourselves and the sea.🌊

And it got me thinking - can tuning in to your menstrual cycle nurture your surfing practice?🤔

What happens when we ditch the bro-heavy surf culture in favor of one that supports cycling bodies to thrive in the water?

Today on the blog/pod we’re learning to ride our own tides and find our own strength in the sea.

Surfers, sailors and selkies - this one’s for you. 🏄🏽‍♀️🦭

📢Herb farmers, gardeners and herbalists!📢

We are looking to stock our Rockland clinic with a dried herb apothecary this summer. 🌸

We need these herbs:
+Milky Oats
+Raspberry Leaf
+Tulsi
+Lemon Balm
+Peppermint
+Spearmint
+Chamomile
+Yarrow
+Motherwort
+Skullcap (Scut. Lat)
+Nettle

And possibly others that are not yet on my list.

Herbs need to be organically grown (understand many of you grow organic herbs but don’t have organic ‘certification’ - that’s ok!) dried and ready at the end of the season.

Would love to place an order during Spring - so you have a secure sale and we can make sure we have what we need for our clinic.

Pls get in touch if you’re planning to grow and happy to sell in bulk.

And pls pass it on !

Thanks!

I’m a bit in love with Peony.

For the past three years I’ve tended a beautiful patch at a garden one town over.

Their first shoots are deep purple-magenta, and these early sprouts remind me of fimbrae- of the Fallopian tubes.

This is a beautiful doctrine of signatures as Peony root has long been used to support hormonal balancing and estrogen clearing.

Peony works both on the HPO axis and the liver, supporting excess estrogen.

But when Peony is combined with Licorice - a known synergist - magic happens.

Together - these herbs have the power to calm and balance excess androgens - like those found in PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).

PCOS is a notoriously tricky condition involving the inability to ovulate and excessive androgens (like testosterone.)

For those who suffer PCOS, erratic periods, infertility and hirsutism can be especially hard to cope with.

Herbs, holistic nutrition and fertility awareness can help - and - getting the right diagnosis can ensure you’re addressing the root causes.

👉On the blog you’ll find a deep dive into PCOS.👈

We cover why understanding the drivers of PCOS is so important and 10 holistic things you can do to help your body heal.

Link in bio. ✨✨

And BTW - While it’s gained in popularity over the years and is used frequently in Western Herbalism it’s important to remember that Peony + Licorice is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula. To find out more - book a session with your local TCM practitioner!

28/03/2021

As I’ve come to understand it, the dark half of the year is ruled by the Cailleach.

The old woman of the world whose storms shape the land.

When Spring threatens to arrive, the Cailleach fights to maintain her grasp.

I’ve heard tell of Cailleach winds and Cailleach seas that roar at this time of year across the Celtic isles.

Tonight as the rain pelts the roof of the cabin and I keep the wood stove burning bright, I’m wondering about her - that old wisdom keeper.

Of the old stories and old ways of being in our bodies.

Of the resonances between our cycles and the seasons of the land.

And remembering how the Otherworld is inextricably linked with this one.

It's not just a physical earth we are tending.

A body is home for a spirit.

Perhaps that's why the Cailleach roars so loud and so long,
and hesitates to give up her vigil.

She's desperate,
for us to remember.
