I cannot wait for this book!

What a divine coincidence to finish writing the first draft of my new book on the anniversary of the death of my best friend, Kurt, who died of AIDS 28 years ago today.

Kurt was a writer who inspired me to even consider writing books, and inspired me to become a Yoga teacher.

He died at 37, and I can’t imagine what he would have created if he had been given another fifty years.

I hope this book makes him proud ❤️

My asana, or physical yoga practice, looks a lot different than it did 10 years ago. My most frequent poses these days are the “bounce-and-rock-asana” the “hunch-and-breastfeed-asana” the “balance-laptop-and-coffee-while-removing-Lego-from-arms-reach-asana.” Does this make me less of a yogi? I still use my breath to calm my nerves when these poses are challenging my every muscle, I still tune into my inner mind when my body is moving almost automatically from pose to pose. This is my current practice and I find all the yamas and niyamas in each moment with my children. I deeply and truly believe this is what is meant by yoga is a lifestyle. A practice beyond the pretty shapes you see on Instagram. What does your practice look like these days?

When we see a baby start to move towards sitting up, crawling and standing, we don’t berate or shame them for falling down, for taking a misstep, for backing off and trying it again next week or next month. We allow babies the space to move, find movement, and we praise them for their incremental steps toward their goal. Can we, just for a second, treat ourselves like those babies we praise and coddle. Let’s enjoy our incremental successes. Let’s be joyous about our small steps.

I’m not a guru. To be very honest, at any given moment, I have no idea what I’m doing. It feels EXTREMELY uncomfortable to put myself “out there” as a yoga teacher because, really, I feel much more of a student than I do a teacher. I used to be a dedicated yogi, flexible, strong, practiced multiple times a week. But about 6.5 years ago, this mind blowing thing happened, I had a kid, and everything changed. My strength changed, my body changed, my center of balance changed, my priorities changed. Suddenly poses that used to be easy we’re incredibly difficult, IF I found time to do them at all. And I became very sad. Because if I wasn’t this bendy yogi person, who was I? It was when I started ACTUALLY studying ACTUAL yoga that I realized, yoga was literally made for everyone, at every stage of life. If you’re not in a class that is helping you find the yoga that fits your body, find a new teacher. There are as many modifications for each pose and there are humans on earth and not one of them is better or more or less advanced than the other. They’re just different. At the end of the day, the movements are simply a gateway to a greater connection to your mind and breath. A moment of freedom from the everyday drudgery of reality. And that is what I want to share with people. You don’t have to wait until you’re stronger or bendier or thinner or have more time to do yoga, to find that connection or find that release. It’s always available to you. Let me help you be a student of your own pathway to your own connection. Does this resonate with you? Let me know!

Hello! I’ve been busy! I’m rebuilding my practice after having a baby, having heart surgery and being a human surviving a pandemic, HBU? I DEEPLY believe that yoga is an inclusive practice for all stages of life and all bodies (and the early writings of yoga say the same!) so why am I so self conscious when I’m a) out of shape, b) stressed with no time, c) all of the above! When we are overwhelmed is when we need yoga the most and ALL bodies need movement, even the smallest moments make a big difference. DM me if you’re interested in small group, outside or online yoga sessions. I would love to work with you and help you find the practice that is right for you, where you are right now.

I can’t fully explain the pull my heart has felt toward yoga teaching in the last year, however I can’t speak enough about the certificate program held by and the guidance by , bringing an Antiracist, Anti-ableist, Trauma-Informed and Human-Centered space for co-creation and finding ones own yoga practice for each persons own body. It’s refreshing, enlightening and resonating in every fiber of my being. And informs how I interact with my students in my 9-5 job. With deepest and most humble gratitude, thank you! 💓🙏
