Last Friday, we gathered to celebrate the people who make everything we do possible, our Direct Support Professionals!

More than 20 DSPs received their Microcredential certificates at our DSP Recognition Celebration, a morning dedicated to honoring their commitment to professional growth and the people they support every day.

Maria Torgalski from the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities joined us to offer remarks and present certificates alongside our President & CEO Jeff Paterson and Board Chair Mike O'Connor.

We also heard from Donte Lindsay, our new Advocacy Support Specialist, on the importance of advancing self-advocacy, and Meg Healy, Director of Professional Development, who highlighted the learning and development programs fueling growth across sasi.

Our Director of Education and Training, Leadlay Ogden, also facilitated a great discussion where graduates shared key takeaways.

Please join us in congratulating all of our graduates! Sasi is stronger because of you 👏

Doctors told her family she wouldn't live to adulthood.

Then they said she wouldn't finish high school.

Then college was out of the question.

Courtney Helmich has spent her entire life hearing what she can't do, and then doing it anyway.

Born in 1993 with cerebral palsy and quadriplegia, Courtney beat every prognosis put in front of her.

She earned her Regents diploma from Pioneer Central High School.

She graduated from Genesee Community College with an associate's degree.

And when the path to employment felt blocked at every turn, a single conversation with a friend changed everything.

"You should become an author and write about your story."

So she did.

Writing under the pen name Annie Lynne, a tribute to a horse she loved as a kid, Courtney published her memoir, "This Is Me, Courtney Lynn."

She's now written more than 20 books. Topics range from adaptive technology to '90s TV shows to reflections on what it means to live fully in a body the world constantly underestimates.

"I don't see myself solely as a person with a disability," Courtney says.

Today Courtney will be honored with the Personal Achievement Award at the 2026 DD Day Conference in Niagara Falls and we couldn't be more proud of her.

Congratulations, Courtney. You've never let anyone else write your story. Literally.

Sasi Day Hab participants had the opportunity to take a guided walk through beautiful Knox Farm State Park last week.

The group learned about native birds, pointed out different flowers and plants and enjoyed a day in the sunshine! 🌸🐤☀️
