Eleos Services

Eleos Services Eleos Services is mercy in action in the lives of adults & children with developmental disabilities.

ἔλεος - to show mercy or compassion with a desire to help

Eleos Services was founded in the Spring of 2015 inspired by Elli. Elli has Smith-Magenis Syndrome, and with her family leading her care teams, she has had wonderful opportunities to be involved in the northern Colorado community that they all call home. When Elli graduated from high school and transitioned from children’s services to adu

lt services, her family wanted to continue to be her advocate and wanted to serve other families by providing opportunities for family-focused services and support. They saw the need to start a Program Approved Service Agency (PASA). Eleos Services Director, Jennifer Struck’s role as mother and caregiver, as well as her nursing background in public health and experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, made taking the next step in advocacy as a PASA a reality. Jennifer has been a Registered Nurse (RN) for approximately 25 years and for the last several years has held the distinction of Certified Developmental Disabilities Nurse (CDDN), awarded to just a small handful of nurses in the state of Colorado. Jennifer Struck BNSc, RN, CDDN is a member of:

Member and former board member of the Colorado Association of Nurses for the Developmentally Disabled (CANDD)
Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association (DDNA)
Parents and Researchers Interested in Smith-Magenis Syndrome (PRISMS)

Eleos Services is a member of:

American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR)
American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD)

Eleos Services has an Educational Affiliation Agreement with the University of Northern Colorado as a clinical site for nursing students.

This week, as we recognize Juneteenth, we honor the enduring struggle for freedom, equality, and justice for Black Americans. We also acknowledge the experiences and contributions of Black disabled people, whose voices and leadership have been essential in advancing both civil rights and disability rights. Juneteenth reminds us that true inclusion requires addressing the barriers created by racism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to building communities where all people can thrive with dignity, access, and opportunity.

Powerful reminder as we are advocating a lot lately for appropriate equipment.

It is okay to use different mobility aids on different days.

Disability is not always predictable. Pain levels, energy, balance, strength, and symptoms can change from one day to the next.

What works today might not work tomorrow, and that is completely okay.

Using a cane one day and a wheelchair the next does not make you a fraud.

Using a walker for longer outings but walking independently at home does not mean you're exaggerating your needs.

You're just giving yourself the support you need in the moment.

Mobility aids are tools. Their purpose is to help you move through the world safely and comfortably.

The "right" mobility aid is simply the one that helps you the most on that particular day.

Image Description: A floral-themed graphic features the message, "What works today might not work tomorrow," written in elegant black script. The image is framed on all sides by a watercolor-style border of flowers and greenery. Along the bottom of the graphic are illustrations of a manual wheelchair, a rollator walker with forearm supports, a cane, and a pair of forearm crutches.

We are honored to share that SMS parent Mary Beall was the commencement speaker for the Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences Department Graduation Recognition Ceremony at the University of Colorado Boulder on May 2, 2026. Mary was invited by Christine Brennan, a PRISMS Professional Advisory Board member and assistant professor at CU Boulder.

Mary shared her daughter’s journey of communication development and reflected on the many challenges (and successes) their family navigated throughout her schooling and beyond. She highlighted the critical role of speech-language pathologists, audiologists, educators, and other clinicians in supporting individuals with communication needs and their families across the lifespan.

Her message helped graduates connect their academic training to the real-world impact of compassionate, thoughtful, and collaborative care. Mary also capitalized on the opportunity to increase awareness and understanding of Smith-Magenis syndrome with future clinicians and their families.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the graduates as they begin the next chapter of their journey, to bridge academic learning with real-world clinical practice, and to share information about Smith-Magenis syndrome with future clinicians and their families.

Thank you, Mary, for inspiring these graduates and reminding them of the reasons they chose to pursue degrees in speech, language, and hearing sciences. And thank you for reminding all of us of the impact that dedicated clinicians can make on the lives of individuals and families.
