Meet the mind behind the strategy and this month's ✨FEATURE FRIDAY✨: our Director of Brand Strategy, Whitney! She brings a thoughtful, audience-first perspective to every project, helping our team turn big-picture goals into clear brand strategies, compelling messages and marketing that connects with the right people 💡
Fun fact: Her great-grandfather served as Governor of Connecticut, U.S. Secretary of State, and Ambassador to India, working with JFK and FDR and being deeply influenced by Gandhi. His work focused heavily on civil rights and advocating for African Americans and other minorities!
Q: What made you want to work in marketing?
A: As a kid, I was always fascinated with the strategy of ad campaigns. Long before we could skip commercials or pay for no ads, they were a huge part of consuming entertainment, which was a big part of my life. Why were the ads on TV or radio different depending on the particular shows or the times of day they were on? For example, on days I was home sick from school, the commercials were all about careers and schools (for the unemployed) or cleaning products and groceries (for ’90s SAHMs). This is what sparked my interest in how to get products in front of the right people at the right time.
Q: What's one piece of marketing advice you swear by?
A: Know your audience and build your copy, creative and targeting through their lens of life. Understanding their pain points and communicating how your product can solve their problems makes all the difference.
Q: What's your favorite way to spend a day off?
A: I’m a Ta**us, so comfort and luxury are at the top of my list of ways to recharge. Sleeping in, eating a delicious meal and relaxing with my family, friends and pets sounds like the perfect day off to me.
Q: What movie best represents you?
A: I can’t pick just one, especially because I consider myself a big cinephile. But I’d say this mix of movies would represent my tastes and could tell another movie buff a lot about me from what I like: Magnolia, Empire of the Sun, Zoolander, Weapons, and Oldboy.
Q: What was the last book you read?
A: Dungeon Crawler Carl, Book 1. Came highly recommended by my coworkers who are big readers (shout-out to Dee & Lance). It’s a super fun read, full of action, comedy and social commentary. I’m almost done with Book 2 and plan to power through all 8!
