This weekend, we had the joy of welcoming our newest class of 31 resident physicians and their families to South Georgia! 👋🩺

As part of SGMC Health’s Graduate Medical Education program, these residents represent the continued momentum of our academic mission—training the next generation of physicians while expanding access to exceptional care across our region.

From games and laughter to meaningful conversations with faculty and staff, the weekend was filled with connection, community, and a glimpse of the journey ahead.

Leading expertise. Local impact.✨

Rehan Dawood, DO, Orthopedic Surgeon at SGMC Health, was selected for the prestigious Herodicus Traveling Fellowship, an honor reserved for rising leaders in orthopedic sports medicine. He traveled to New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles to train with three prestigious orthopedic sports surgeons. Out of applicants nationwide, he was one of only two physicians chosen. 🎉

Dr. Dawood’s expertise in sports medicine, his experience caring for athletes at every level, including professional teams, and his commitment to helping patients return to the activities they love make him an incredible asset to our community.

We’re proud he’s here and even more grateful our patients have access to his level of skill, compassion, and care right here at SGMC Health. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Dawood! 👏

At our Community Cancer Survivors Celebration, we came together to honor those who have faced cancer head-on and the loved ones who stood beside them every step of the way. Hosted by Pearlman Cancer Center and made possible by the generous support of the SGMC Health Foundation, the evening was filled with moments that celebrated every milestone, every story, and every hard-earned victory.

Help us congratulate this month’s Health System Heroes, Kendra Butenschon, RN, and Amber Chadwick, RN! 🎉🏆

These two are being recognized for bringing creativity and innovation to how we train our neonatal care teams. Through interactive, hands-on learning techniques in our simulation lab, they’re building confidence, sharpening clinical excellence, and preparing these teams to deliver exceptional care when it matters most for our smallest patients. 💜👶
