Also at the in-service, trainers may not be going up higher than the presets so if you didn’t get results during your in-service, it was because your settings were not therapeutic and too low

That’s why I prefer the term aesthetic professional or aesthetic clinician.

Our value isn’t defined by a syringe—it’s defined by our knowledge of skin, anatomy, technology, safety, and our ability to create comprehensive treatment plans that help patients achieve their goals.

Over the last few days I’ve noticed there are lots of posts in aesthetic fb groups about poorly run places and toxic work environments.

When I started in aesthetics I didn’t have any clue what questions to ask or what to look for when applying for jobs. Unfortunately the first job I worked at 14 years ago was so poorly ran it was putting my RN license at risk, they were using illegal products, gfes weren’t being done, we were improperly trained on lasers but it did help me get my foot in the door.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

So a few years ago I started a blog post about getting your start in aesthetic nursing which also includes:
-questions to ask during interviews
-asking to shadow for a day to get an idea of the work environment
-asking about opportunities for growth and training
-checking the medical directors license to make sure it’s in good standing

And more

It’s about an 8 min read and it’s too long to post here but it answers alot of questions we get asked as experienced aesthetic nurses on how to get your start. An illegally ran, toxic work environment isn’t worth putting your hard earned license at risk.

I hope this will help others avoid the same situation I was in.

Intense pulsed light is one of the most misunderstood and complicated devices to learn. In my experience, having used seven different IPL devices in clinic, it cannot be learned just with one day of training.

It’s one of my favorite technologies to teach on because it’s one of the most rewarding and can give a big bang for the patient’s buck, but it takes time to learn and understand how to maximize your results in minimum amount of treatments meanwhile minimizing adverse effects.

If you’re struggling with intense pulsed light results or your in-service training was subpar and you’re still left with a lot of questions, I help lots of medspas with hands-on or virtual training to understand the technology better.

The best trainers are those that have actually used those specific devices in clinic and aren’t just following protocol sheets.
