🌙 Over the Moon 🌙

This soap started with a photo.

While celebrating our anniversary on the Gulf Coast, I snapped a picture of a sunset fading into twilight. The colors, the ocean, the little crescent moon hanging in the sky—it was one of those moments that makes you stop and appreciate where you are.

Naturally, my first thought was, “I should turn that into soap.”

The plan was a dark ocean, a glowing horizon, and a moonlit sky. The fragrance oil, however, decided we were working on a much tighter timeline than I had anticipated and accelerated pretty significantly.

There was definitely a moment where I wondered if this batch was about to become an expensive lesson.

But sometimes the things that don’t go according to plan still work out exactly the way they’re supposed to.

That’s true in soapmaking, and honestly, it’s true in life too.

This one is called Over the Moon, and despite the chaos during the pour, it turned out to be one of my favorite designs I’ve made so far. 🌙✨

🌙 Sneak Peek: Over the Moon 🌙

This one tested my patience a little.

The inspiration came from a sunset photo I took during our anniversary trip to the Gulf—a darkening sky, glowing horizon, and a little crescent moon hanging overhead. Naturally, I thought, “I should turn that into soap.”

The fragrance oil had other plans and decided to speed things up considerably, but sometimes the batches that make you sweat the most end up surprising you.

For now, here’s a look at the freshly poured top before the cut. The full making and cutting video will be coming soon, and I’m excited to share the finished bars with you.

Sometimes you just have to keep going, trust the process, and see where it takes you. 💙✨

📦 Another milestone unlocked for Suds & Sass!

After a lot of back-and-forth, I finally settled on a soap curing system—and it arrived today!

These racks give me room to cure somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-600 bars of soap at a time, which feels a little wild considering where this journey started. 😅

Now comes the fun part: filling every single tray.

One batch, one loaf, and one bar at a time. 🧼✨

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, encouraged me, tested soaps, and cheered on this little dream. Seeing things like this come together makes it all feel a little more real.

Here’s to full curing racks, happy customers, and plenty more soap in the months ahead.

🍉 Freshly cut and ready for its close-up! 🍉

This Watermelon soap definitely had a mind of its own. The design I ended up with isn’t exactly the one I planned, but that’s one of the things I love about handmade soap. Sometimes you guide the process, and sometimes the soap decides where it’s going.

Despite the plot twist, I think it turned out pretty beautiful. Bright, cheerful, and perfect for summer.

This batch is especially exciting because it’s my very first DOUBLE batch! 🎉 Watermelon has been such a hit with friends and family that it was time to make more at once. It’s a little nerve-wracking scaling up, but seeing these fresh cuts makes it feel worth it.

The full making video will be coming in the next day or two, and this one definitely gave me a few stories to tell along the way.

🍊 Orange You Sweet 🍊

Every soap has a story, and this one is a reminder that sometimes things don’t go exactly according to plan… and that’s perfectly okay.

When I poured this Honey Clementine soap, I was hoping for a beautiful swirl running through the entire bar. Instead, I poured a little too early and ended up with what I can only describe as a “ghost swirl”—soft, subtle, and easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.

Thankfully, the top design came ready to steal the show.

From the honeycomb texture created with bubble wrap, to the golden honey accents, to the sparkly little clementine embeds, this soap turned out bright, cheerful, and full of personality.

Orange You Sweet is made with skin-loving oils, colloidal oatmeal, honey, and aloe juice, and it smells absolutely amazing thanks to the Honey Clementine fragrance.

This is also the first soap in a citrus-inspired collection I’m working on, and I can’t wait to share the rest with you.

And yes, this video also features the debut of my brand-new soap cutter because my old cheese cutter just wasn’t cutting it anymore. 😏

Some projects are about more than soap.

This custom breast milk soap was made for a family member and her sweet baby girl, Stella. Creating something so personal, from the custom soap design to the keepsake label, reminded me why I fell in love with soapmaking in the first place.

In fact, this very project is what inspired me to get back into making soap and start working toward sharing my creations with others.

As Suds & Sass continues to grow, one of the things I’m most excited about is eventually offering custom soaps. Whether it’s a keepsake soap like this one, party favors for a special event, baby shower gifts, wedding favors, or a custom design you’ve been dreaming up, I love the creative process of bringing those ideas to life.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about turning a meaningful story into a one-of-a-kind bar of soap.

This one will always hold a special place in my heart because it helped remind me that creating beautiful things for people is exactly where I want to be.

Building a brand has turned out to be about a lot more than making soap.

Over the past few months, I’ve been spending a lot of time refining not just my products, but who I am as a maker and what I want this brand to represent. I want it to feel creative, a little cheeky, a little rebellious, and full of things that bring joy to everyday life.

Today’s offering is Berry Complicated.

This bar is scented with an absolutely incredible fragrance from Midwest Fragrance Company called Blueberry Lychee & Sugar Milk, and I can honestly say the scent is out of this world. Sweet blueberries, juicy lychee, and creamy sugar milk come together into something that feels both comforting and just a little unexpected.

If I’m being picky, I’m not completely sold on the design yet. Sometimes the vision in my head and the soap in the mold don’t quite have the same conversation. But that’s part of the process too. Every batch teaches me something, and every design gets me a little closer to the look and feel I’m chasing.

What I am completely sold on is how luxurious this bar feels. Rich lather, gorgeous ingredients, and a fragrance that keeps making me pick it up for “just one more sniff.”

This brand is still growing, evolving, and becoming what it’s meant to be—and honestly, so am I.

Keep an eye out. There’s definitely more to come. 💜🫐✨

🍯🍊 Sneak Peek Alert! 🍊🍯

A few days ago I shared some embeds I was working on, and tonight they finally found their home in a brand new Honey Clementine soap.

This fragrance is bright, cheerful, and just a little sweet—perfect for summertime. The batter behaved so beautifully that it’s going to take a little longer before it’s ready to cut, so for now you’ll have to settle for a peek at the top.

One of the hardest parts of soapmaking is waiting to see how everything turns out once the loaf is cut. Thankfully, that reveal should be coming this weekend!

A little update from the soap studio 🫧

When I first started making soap, “Handmade by Granny Annie” felt safe and simple. But as I’ve grown creatively, I realized I wanted a brand that truly captured my personality, my style, and the feeling I want people to have when they see my products.

So officially… welcome to the next chapter:
✨ Suds & Sass by Granny Annie ✨

This new branding feels so much more me — vintage charm, handmade goodness, a little attitude, and a whole lot of heart.

I’m currently starting the rebranding process and honestly, I could not be more excited. I’ve been overflowing with inspiration lately and my notebook is FULL of ideas for soaps, collections, seasonal launches, and content I can’t wait to share with you all.

I’m heading out on vacation for the next week to recharge and reset a little, but after Memorial Day the plan is to jump back in full force:
