For Maryann, survivorship means remembering one important truth: cancer may be part of her story, but it does not define who she is.
Diagnosed with non-small-cell lung cancer in 2015 and later with leptomeningeal spread in 2025, Maryann has spent more than a decade navigating life with cancer.
Along the way, one of her biggest challenges has been confronting misconceptions about lung cancer and helping others understand that every cancer journey is unique.
Through the difficult moments, Maryann found support in the Be Well community โ a place where she could show up exactly as herself.
"[Be Well is] the most accepting group I have ever joined."
At Be Well, she found a space where she wasn't defined by her diagnosis. She found movement, support, and a community that cared about her as a whole person.
"No one [at Be Well] wanted to talk about my cancer - they just wanted me to feel better."
For Maryann, that acceptance has made all the difference.
"I am not my cancer. I am me."
As part of our Voices of Survivorship campaign, we are honored to share Maryann's story of strength, acceptance, and identity beyond cancer.
