Evaluation and Management of Headaches: Lab Intensive
March 2024
This 1.5-day (12 hour) course on the evaluation and management of headaches provides a comprehensive overview of primary (migraine headache and tension-type headache) and secondary (cervicogenic headache, occipital neuralgia, and post-traumatic headache) headache disorders. The physiology and underlying mechanisms are discussed in combination with screening considerations for red flags. This course will provide manual therapy techniques and exercise from a research and evidence-based perspective including soft tissue mobilization as well as thrust (HVLA) and non-thrust mobilization directed at the cervical spine, cervicothoracic spine, and adjacent ribs. The course is designed to provide examination, treatment, and reassessment measures for orthopedic clinicians utilizing a case-based approach that covers various presentations of patients with headache. Manual therapy interventions are presented through live lab demonstrations. This course will follow a progression of principles and reinforce them throughout, is at least 60% hands-on lab, and will give the clinician hands-on skills they can use immediately upon their return to the clinical setting.
