An important message...
We know many families are being more careful right now.

Groceries cost more. Bills cost more. Everyone is feeling the weight of inflation, uncertainty, and digital overwhelm. We feel it too.

And while we’ve worked hard not to raise our prices based on inflation, that time may be coming soon. Unfortunately, the cost of good ingredients, packaging, supplies, and small-batch handmade work keeps rising.

So here’s our gentle reminder:

Your health, your rest, your nervous system, your skin, your family’s care — these are not the places to cut corners.

That’s why Woodland Herbal exists.

We’re a family of four living generations of herbalists, making plant-based remedies, herbal medicines, natural beauty products, teas, salves, tinctures, and organic skin care with the kind of care you just can’t buy in a big box store.

We don’t cut corners.
We don’t water things down.
We don’t chase trends.
We don’t make products we wouldn’t use in our own home.

Every recipe carries research, tradition, time, love, and the best natural ingredients we can grow, forage for, and source from organic farms. And through Woodland Herbal and Green Path Academy, we’re here not only to make good remedies, but to help people remember their way back to nature, back to simple care, and back to the plants.

If you’ve been meaning to restock your favorites, now is a good time.

Thank you for trusting our family with yours.

Come to class this Sunday!

This class teaches students how to think through a case, ask better questions, notice patterns, and begin building thoughtful herbal support plans rather than just grabbing random remedies. We’ll explore how to move from complaint to deeper understanding, how to organize a protocol, how to match herbs more wisely to the person in front of you, and how to build formulas with purpose, balance, and common sense. We’ll also review homework from the Whole Body Health class, where students work through seven different people, identify the core issues beneath the surface, create short holistic protocols, and design Simple recipes to match the case. Through discussion, case review, and guided exercises, students learn to bring the wider Green Path coursework into usable form.
* Learn how to look beyond the surface complaint and identify the deeper patterns, systems, and root issues that shape a person’s imbalance.
* Practice building simple, thoughtful herbal protocols that include remedies, supportive foods, lifestyle shifts, and realistic next steps for the person in front of you.
* Work through real-life case thinking by reviewing homework from the Whole Body Health class, where students assess seven different people, identify core concerns, and design short holistic protocols and matching recipes.
* Explore the art of formula building more deeply, including how to choose primary herbs, supportive herbs, nourishers, and catalysts with greater clarity and purpose.
* Grow more confident in the human side of herbalism by learning how to ask better questions, think more holistically, and create support plans that are practical, grounded, and personalized.
3-4 hours, $80. Hosted at Clary Gardens in Coshocton, Ohio.

We’re looking for traditional skills teachers and hands-on demonstrators.

Lost Skills Gathering is still searching for a few specific people who know useful, practical, old-world, homesteading, craft, and land-based skills — and who might be willing to share them with the community.

Right now, we’re especially looking for people who can teach or demonstrate:

• Repair
• Midwifery
• Trapping
• Cheese making
• Natural dyeing
• Tallow rendering / tallow crafts
• Wine making
• Whittling
• Flintknapping
• Food fermentation
• Sourdough
• Woodworking
• Taxidermy
• Wilderness structures
• Animal husbandry

Some skills disappear quietly when fewer people are asked to share them. Lost Skills Gathering was created to help keep useful knowledge alive through demonstrations, hands-on learning, good conversations, and simple community connection.

Teaching doesn’t have to mean standing on a stage. It can be simple, hands-on, conversational, and kind. Show people how something works. Answer questions. Demonstrate a skill. Help pass along something useful before it’s forgotten.

Teachers are supported through our Pay By The Heart tip culture and may sell their own goods for free when they teach.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, please reach out or tag them below.

Help us find the people who still know how to make, mend, grow, tend, craft, preserve, build, and remember.

NEW! LymphWise Extract - Potent Blend for Clearing, Cleansing, and Lymphatic Drainage

LymphWise is our botanical cleansing support tincture, crafted to encourage healthy lymphatic movement, fluid balance, and the body’s natural clearing pathways. This thoughtful blend of Cleavers, Calendula, Red Clover, Violet, Burdock, Chickweed, and Red Root brings together herbs long valued for helping move stagnation, support swollen or boggy tissue, and promote gentle internal cleanup when the system feels stuck, heavy, or slow.

Formulated with both cooling and moving herbs, LymphWise offers a balanced approach to lymphatic support. Cleavers, Violet, and Chickweed bring a softer, more fluid-moving touch, while Calendula, Red Root, and Red Clover are traditionally appreciated for encouraging lymphatic flow and supporting the body where congestion tends to linger. Burdock rounds out the formula with its long-loved reputation as a steady alterative herb, supporting the deeper eliminative work that helps the body clear what it no longer needs.

This beautiful tincture is a must keep on hand natural remedy for when you want to support the body’s natural rhythm of movement, drainage, and renewal. Handcrafted in small batches by our family of four generations of herbalists, LymphWise is a concentrated plant extract made for those seasons when the body could use a little extra help clearing stagnation and finding its way back to better flow.

I’m excited and honored to share that my photograph Aurora Reflections from Warsaw, Ohio was selected for the 80th Ohio Annual Exhibition at the Zanesville Museum of Art.

This year, around 300 artists submitted work, and I’m grateful to be one of the 67 chosen for this juried exhibition. As someone who has spent so much of my life following light, weather, wild places, and quiet moments with a camera, it means a lot to have this piece included among so many talented Ohio artists.

The exhibition opens Thursday, June 18, from 5:30–7:30 PM, with the award ceremony at 6 PM. It will be on view through September 11.

Thank you to the Zanesville Museum of Art for this opportunity, and congratulations to all the artists selected.

We’re proud to share the official press release for the Lost Skills Gathering, a new hands-on heritage festival created by our Woodland Herbal family and the Green Path Academy: School of Herbalism.

This gathering is close to our hearts. It’s about bringing old skills back into living practice: herbalism, foraging, fire-starting, broom-making, blacksmithing, storytelling, survival, food resilience, practical crafts, plant wisdom, and the useful knowledge that connects families, communities, and generations.

We’re deeply grateful to the sponsors and community partners helping bring this event to life, including Historic Roscoe Village, Shamrock Printing, Lity’s Scrapyard, and Central Ohio Technical College.

I’m truly honored that my article, “The Way You Make It Matters: Intention, Craft, and the Heart of Herbalism,” was chosen for the Journal of Medicinal Plant Conservation by United Plant Savers for 2026.

This piece means a great deal to me. At its heart, it’s about remembering that herbalism is not only about what we make, but how we make it — the care, attention, relationship, responsibility, and intention we bring into the work.

After spending this past year more closely involved in the wider herbal community, I found myself thinking often about what it really means to serve herbalism well. Beyond the noise, beyond the politics, beyond the many different opinions about where this work should go, I kept coming back to something simple and deeply important: the way we make things matters.

I believe this is a message for herbalists, caregivers, gardeners, conservationists, makers, and anyone who cares about plants, people, and the living world. Our work is shaped not only by our knowledge, but by our presence. Not only by the remedies we offer, but by the spirit we bring to them.

The journal has gone out to more than 4,000 herbalists, medicinal plant conservationists, and plant people, and I’m grateful to be part of such a thoughtful and important organization.

If you subscribe to the Journal of Medicinal Plant Conservation, you may have already seen it in print. If not, you can read the article here: www.WoodlandHerbal.com > Plant Wisdom
(Or direct link: https://woodlandherbal.com/blogs/walk-with-us-memoirs-meanderings/united-plant-savers-article-the-way-you-make-it-matters )

Thank you to United Plant Savers for including my work, and for continuing to protect the plants that make this path possible.

Herbal blessings,
Brandon Elijah Scott

Next week, Herbal Wisdom for a Toxic Age moves one step closer to being out in the world.

I wrote this guide because I know how many people are trying to live with more care in a world that can feel overwhelming, overprocessed, and disconnected from the simple things that help us feel human again.

This book is full of practical plant wisdom for that exact place.

Inside, you’ll find materia medica plant profiles, simple recipes, old useful methods, and grounded ways to work with the plants when modern life feels like it’s asking too much of the body, mind, and spirit.

The free PDF version will still be available through Woodland Herbal when the book officially releases, because I truly wanted this guide to be accessible to anyone who needs it.

But for those who love a real book in their hands, the kind you can mark up, leave beside the kettle, keep on the kitchen table, or gift to someone who’s beginning their own green path, the printed edition is available now for preorder.

Preordering directly through Woodland Herbal is the best way to support this work at the source. It helps honor the hundreds of hours that went into the writing, research, recipes, design, and care behind these pages.

Thank you, truly, for helping carry this work into the world.
