I've been blessed to do some work for the Lancaster Environmental Center project and today was one of my favorite type of days, a site visit.
I introduced some of the team to the Ambassador or Guardian Tree, this beautiful Red Oak. 💖
And we got to meet some of the neighbors. 🐍
The tentative outline of the building is staked out, so I wandered around talking to the Trees and Nature Spirits, letting them know the plans. Amazingly no one objected today, though they did site the building where the Nature Spirits requested it.
Often people think that if we were to consult with Nature for our building projects, nothing would get built. But that isn't true.
In my experience, Nature Spirits are grateful to be consulted and can provide valuable information which we may not otherwise know. Working WITH Nature helps our projects flow more easily with way less drama.
I consulted with some Trees today that originally were to be protected; however I could tell that the building was going to be too close. While the team was trying to figure out how to make it work, I asked the Trees. The closest one said their preference is to stay, but it's okay to remove them.
Another cluster was given the choice of staying, being coppiced, or being removed. They opted for removal, though expressed concern for Bird habitat. I informed them that that is one of the priorities.
What would this world look like if we worked WITH our Nature kin?
