Every cancer diagnosis is unique. Independent community oncology practices like Astera Cancer Care prioritize not only innovative therapies but also payment delivery models for exceptional patient care. Using an episode of care payment method, which bundles medical services over a set timeframe into a single price, patients with unique conditions like breast cancer can access more affordable treatments compared to traditional fee-for-service payment.

This approach ensures:
- Faster treatment: Direct access with fewer delays
- Streamlined operations: Fewer administrative hurdles
- Financial Relief: Less out-of-pocket costs

Astera Cancer Care’s patient-first payment approach improves outcomes and eases financial burden. Discover how Astera is a leader in innovation:

What makes in-person advocacy special? Advocates can speak directly to their lawmakers about how policies affect cancer care at home. For Astera Cancer Care in New Jersey, it inspired them to launch CPAN’s newest chapter.

“When I attended one of COA’s Hill Days, I saw firsthand how effective and moving the patient story is, and I knew that we needed to provide that kind of outlet for the Astera family,” said Bruno Fang, MD, president of Astera Cancer Care.

In the home of country music, Tennessee Oncology hits all the right notes for patients with cancer across the state. What started 50 years ago to offer Tennesseans high-quality cancer care in their community, Tennessee Oncology has become one of the nation’s largest community-based cancer providers, delivering the latest clinical trials and innovations to tens of thousands of people each year.

The practice’s CPAN chapter strengthens this mission by providing advocates with a seat at the table where real cancer policy change happens. This partnership empowers advocates to advance the future of cancer care, ensuring that life-saving treatment remains accessible and affordable for everyone.

Patients with cancer deserve a care team that really knows them, not just their file number. Community oncology practices provide personalized care where patients need it most—near their support networks.

“Everyone knows my name at a community oncology practice,” said Helen White, who lives with breast cancer. “It’s more like a family than being a number.”

Helen advocates on Capitol Hill so community oncology’s patient-centered approach remains accessible to everyone. Learn how she makes her voice heard to ensure patients like her are always treated like people, never just a number.

CPAN chapters like the Washington-based Northwest Medical Specialties (NWMS) ensure the voices of people living with cancer are heard. They view the patient journey as a trail best hiked with the support of family and friends. https://mycoa.communityoncology.org/news-updates/press-releases/NWMS-CPAN-chapter-relaunch

After originally launching in 2017, NWMS relaunched its CPAN chapter in March to renew its commitment to advocacy. Advocates are hitting the ground at local farmer’s markets, building momentum for action in Olympia. NWMS’ CPAN chapter proves that the cancer community is stronger when we walk together.
