Workers deserve information, training, and protection BEFORE they get sick or injured.

Too often, people learn about dangerous workplace hazards only after harm has already occurred. Knowing the risks, understanding employer responsibilities, and knowing how to report unsafe conditions can help workers organize for change.

National COSH is working with COSH groups, worker centers, unions, health experts, and workers to identify emerging hazards and support local action.

The Right to Know is about more than information. It is about power.

_____

Don’t let the name fool you.

H.R. 6213, the “Heat Workforce Standards Act,” would not protect workers from extreme heat. It would block OSHA from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing a federal heat standard.

Workers have already waited far too long for protections from dangerous heat. Congress must not create another roadblock while workers continue to become sick, suffer injuries, and lose their lives on the job.

Take action today. Use National COSH’s simple form to customize and send a letter telling your representative to reject H.R. 6213:

https://nationalcosh.salsalabs.org/2026-08-reject-hr6213/index.html

Workers should not have to risk their health or their lives to earn a paycheck.

___

Equal pay. Safe workplaces. Power for Latina workers. ✊🏽

On , the numbers expose a persistent injustice: Latinas are paid, on average, just 53 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. That includes full-time, part-time, and part-year earners. For those working full time, year round, the figure is 60 cents.

Behind these numbers are workers doing essential work, too often without fair wages, benefits, or adequate workplace protections.

Closing the wage gap means confronting discrimination, preventing wage theft and sexual harassment, and protecting immigrant workers’ ability to speak up without fear.
National COSH stands with Latina workers organizing for fair pay, safe jobs, and dignity. Together, we can demand accountability and build worker power.

California is preparing to become the first state to ban the production and installation of manufactured quartz containing more than 1% crystalline silica.
The proposed emergency regulation comes as California reports 657 cases of silicosis and 35 deaths among countertop workers since 2019. Many of those affected are immigrant workers.
Silicosis is an incurable lung disease caused by inhaling crystalline silica dust released when engineered stone is cut, ground or polished. California’s experience has shown that existing safety requirements have not been enough to protect workers across a fragmented industry with many small fabrication shops.
Workers’ lives must come before countertops and corporate profits. California’s proposed action could help lead the nation toward safer materials and stronger protections.
No countertop is worth a worker’s life.

Workplace safety and disability justice go hand in hand.

Workplaces don’t just employ people with disabilities. Unsafe working conditions can also cause injuries, worsen health conditions, and create lifelong disabilities. That’s why prevention is disability justice.

On September 15, National COSH Executive Director Jessica E. Martínez joined the “Disability and the Future of Work” panel at the Disability Economic Justice Summit in Washington, DC, presented by the Ford Foundation.

Jessica shared examples from our COSH Network, highlighting worker leadership, organizing, corporate accountability, and the impact of AI and workplace surveillance on frontline and disabled workers.

Her message: injured and disabled workers must help shape workplace conditions and the future of work. Workers are organizing and building the solutions themselves.
Thank you to the Ford Foundation, moderator Erica Smiley of Jobs With Justice, and fellow panelists Katie Savin of CSU Sacramento and Neil Romano of the National Council on Disability.

Take action by September 30 to help prevent silicosis.
California is considering a draft emergency regulation on the fabrication of engineered stone, a material that can release dangerous silica dust when cut or polished. Cal/OSHA is accepting public comments, and workers’ experiences should help shape the protections that follow.
If you are a worker, union member, worker center, community organization or occupational health advocate, review the proposal and share your perspective.
