zo 3 step chemical peel is one of my favorite treatments for breakouts, acne, fine lines, texture, you name it!

but before we can peel you, we must make sure that your skin barrier is prepped and ready to receive and recover from a chemical peel.
⁣⠀
my patients must be preconditioned with a retinoid product for at least 6-8 weeks before chemical peels!
⁣⠀
this can be a ZO retinol, tret, or 5x-10x

just know that an spf in your moisturizer or make-up isn’t enough! this is usually just enough to protect the product from breaking down, and it isn’t equal parts product + spf 🔑

stick to what we know works so nothing can potentially throw your skin off!
⁣⠀
back when i used to do make-up and would show up on their wedding day. i can’t tell you how many times brides would tell me that they tried a new mask the night before or the day of and were covered in a hives… so don’t do it! don’t try out any new masks, serums, anything!

i recommend starting with the retinol 2 nights on, 2 nights off- for the first week
⁣⠀
for example
M,T- retinol
W, Th- off
F,S- retinol
S,M- off
Tuesday on- every night!!
⁣⠀ ⁣⠀
if needed- repeat for a second week. the longer we take nights off, the longer it will take for your skin to get to a full adjustment period!

so you started a new retinoid product and things seem fine- but now 1 week later your skin is freaking out!

this is normal…initial skin reactions are signs of good repair.
⁣⠀
normal skin reactions include:
pinkness/ redness
dryness
peeling
irritation
itching and burning
⁣⠀
more reactions may occur in sensitive areas: eyes, mouth, neck & chest.
⁣⠀
to reduce reactions:
use lower strength
use less product
decrease the frequency of application, ie; start 2-3x a week and increase to every day as tolerated.
⁣⠀
application of less product will result in less anticipated skin reaction, but a slower repair.
⁣⠀
it takes about 2-6 weeks for transformation to begin & 5 months of daily use for maximum results. I always say it’s “an ugly process for a beautiful result”

my favorite retinoids are 5x & 10x & retinol skin brightener & wrinkle + texture repair
