Koch Chiropractic Equine and Canine would like to share a little bit about Dr. Koch’s journey toward becoming an animal chiropractor after already having a long and successful career as a human doctor of Chiropractic. Many people don’t know how highly educated genuine animal Chiropractor’s are and are not familiar with how much commitment is needed to complete the many years of education required.
Dr. Gina Koch grew up with horses and has been riding since she was a small child. Her family was very active in the AQHA when she was growing up and her passion for horses and all animals has continued throughout her life. Although she is no longer showing, she is a very avid trail rider and equestrian camper. She has been involved in what many would describe “extreme trail riding”, involving long distances in rugged terrain that includes long steep climbs and descents.
Because of the type of riding Dr. Koch does, she understands that our horses are athletes and need to be treated as such. They are asked to carry us and our tack while performing strenuous tasks, whether in the arena or on the trail. Regardless of our choice of equestrian discipline, our horses can develop subluxations and imbalances due to repetitive activity, poor fitting tack, pulling a steer, spinning a circle and flying lead changes -- the list is endless.
Just as the majority of competitive athletes and a large segment of the general population utilize the benefits of chiropractic care to help themselves stay balanced and pain-free, our horses and dogs deserve the same care. Many times an animal will exhibit bad behavior such as bucking or biting in response to being in pain. Chiropractic care can make major changes in the animals well-being and bring an end to pain-related bad behavior.
Dr. Koch has a been a very busy human Chiropractor for 27 years and still loves her human practice but is now focusing just as much on her animal practice. She wants to make an impact on the quality of life of patients regardless of species.
Dr. Koch completed her undergraduate education at UWSP, her Doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA and her postdoctoral education in Animal Chiropractic on a large teaching ranch in Meridian, TX through Animal Chiropractic Education Source which is a very extensive program designed for Doctors of Chiropractic and Veterinarians to develop a very deep knowledge of animal biomechanics and Chiropractic in relation to animal health. In this program DC's and DVM's are learning alongside one another how to best help the animal population through Chiropractic. Dr. Koch's main area of animal expertise is equine and canine.
Dr. Koch would love the opportunity to work with your Veterinarian as part of your horse or dogs healthcare team. We see dogs in our Fremont office and we make farm calls for horses. Give us a call to schedule and help your animal live their best life!
