The real question isn’t “Is Betadine good or bad?” It’s: what does THIS wound need?

Betadine can be helpful when you’re trying to reduce bacteria, especially in certain contaminated or high-risk wounds. But if a wound is clean and actively healing, repeatedly reaching for an antiseptic may not always be the best move.

Look at the tissue, infection risk, drainage, and overall goal of treatment before deciding. In wound care, the right product at the wrong time can still be the wrong choice.

Not every “scab” is just a scab 👀

A small cut or scrape may form a normal scab as it heals. But on a chronic or complicated wound, that dark, dry tissue may actually be eschar, which is dead tissue covering the wound.

Eschar can block healthy tissue from growing, hide what’s happening underneath the wound, and in some cases trap bacteria or contribute to infection.

Same look. Very different situation.

This was a difficult, complex wound that took time and multiple advanced treatments to heal. Adding hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to the patient’s wound care plan made a major difference and helped move the healing process forward.

After a long journey, this is the kind of moment worth celebrating. ❤️

When a transmetatarsal amputation (TMA) flap starts to fail, oxygen delivery to the tissue becomes critical.
