Mental illness is not an illness. It is a condition of the mind and it needs to be talked about to improve. Not as an illness or disease but as health and not healthy. It’s a simple as that. STOP the STIGMA. You cannot catch mental illness from people. Talk to your friends!!!!!!
1 out of 3 people have a mental illness and 1 out of every 10 people have a serious mental illness...
When a friend of mine's Dad got diagnosed with Cancer he was flooded with dinner, love, support, and shoulders to cry on ~ but when his brother went off to get mental health couseling no one did anything to help him through it. In his mind, both of his family members were sick (in different ways yes) but both struggling with their health.
Why is it that no one supported his family through his brother's struggle? Mental health is a silent killer and needs to be talked about. I ask myself...Do we as a nation only support a disease we can see? The brain is the one organ we know the least about. If a person is sick and believed to be located in the brain, are we so scared from lack of knowledge that we do not even support people? Shouldn't we be supporting them more, not less?
If 1 out of 3 people have a mental illness then most of us do, and probably don't know it. Therefore, people should not spend time judging one another when they are bold enough to stop their life to address their concerns and get help. Not weak…brave. Don’t judge them and by slowly fading out of their lives...support them.
If you or someone you know is struggling with a mental health illness, I encourage you to speak up and reach out. It may just save a life.
