From the l.a.Eyeworks archives, "Coconut Roughs" (1986) an early frame proposal by New Zealand jeweler and custom eyewear designer Brian Adam. This provocative frame comprises a coconut shell (wood) frame front with acrylic temple arms bound together by linen thread.

We highly recommend eyewear enthusiasts check out the timeline of Adam's extraordinary catalogue of custom frames at adam.co.nz -- and stay tuned here for a few more we have to share!

Raising our glasses to salute the life — and now the enduring legacy — of artist Betye Saar (July 30, 1926 - July 27, 2026), one of the great treasures of Los Angeles. Though we are saddened by her passing, we are also grateful for the countless gifts she gave to the world. Sending love and heartfelt condolences to Betye’s family and to all those fortunate enough to have spent time in her magnificent presence.

From the l.a.Eyeworks FACE IT! archive, a GIGANTOR frame from 1986, accented with beautifully layered brass fittings for a one of kind creation by jeweler extraordinaire Hilary Beane.

A key chapter in our multi-faceted history of creative partnerships, the "FACE IT!" collection began in the 1980s with invitations to artists, jewelers and other visionaries to transform l.a.Eyeworks frame designs, exploring the expressive potential of eyewear and expanding the concept of vision.
