Our VPhA family is sadden to announce the passing of Dr. Ton Tran, husband of Dr. Binh Tran. We send our sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Binh Tran during this difficult time.

After graduating from Saigon Medical School in 1962, and serving as surgeon in the unique civil and military hospital in Ban Me Thuot in the highland of Central Viet Nam for 4 years, Dr. Ton Tran worked for the Ministry of Health at Pediatric Hospital and Binh Dan Hospital in Saigon where he was involved with teaching medical students on rotation.
In 1973, he did post-graduate work on Pediatric Neurology at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. The family moved to San Diego in 1980, where Ton started his private office taking care of the Vietnamese and Asian communities. Dr. Tran obtained his American Family Practice Board, and was President of the Vietnamese Physicians Association of San Diego, a chapter of the Vietnamese American Medical Association (VAMA).
Dr. Tran retired from medical practice a decade ago, and passed away on April 22, 2024, ending a life dedicated to medical care for his patients and community service in San Diego, CA.

Earlier this year, the USC Vietnamese-American Pharmacy Student Association (VAPSA) hosted their 3rd annual Dieu Ngu Temple Health Fair in collaboration with other USC student organizations Alpha Iota Pi, Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA), and American Pharmacy Student Alliance (APSA).

Cholesterol, diabetes, and blood pressure screenings were provided for the local community in Orange County, California. Pharmacists and student pharmacists worked together to successfully screen more than 45 patients. VAPSA-USC is foremost committed to providing health services to the community in conjunction with promoting the pharmacy profession.

It is with extreme sorrow that we share the sad news of Dr. Man Thuc Nguyen passing on March 8, 2024. Dr. Nguyen was VPhA former president and co-founder of the Buying Group. He worked tirelessly to give back to the community, advancing the profession of pharmacy, and always supporting the growth of student pharmacists. We will always remember Dr. Nguyen as our beloved colleague, mentor, and dear friend.

Our entire family at VPhA sends our sincere condolences and prayers to Dr. Nguyen’s family.

On Sunday, Dr. Mark Nguyen, Dr. Naomi Banh, and Dr. Jenee Vo came out to help students from WesternU and UCLA in their annual VCH health fair. It was heartfelt to see everyone working together and giving back to the Vietnamese community.

Proud to share with our members Orange County Pharmacists Association (OCPhA) upcoming CE Program:

You will have the opportunity to learn more about MOUD and how to be a MOUD resource for patients. This event will be taking place on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, from 9am-1pm at Chapman Rinker Campus.

The goal of the event is to educate Orange County pharmacists about the barriers patients face in accessing MOUD. Attendees will hear from distinguished experts in this area and earn CE credit to support patients on MOUD, gain perspective of patient experiences receiving care for opioid use disorder, and learn about the barriers patient’s face from a provider perspective. We aim to empower pharmacists with the tools and support network to break down these barriers and raise awareness of pharmacists' role in combating the opioid epidemic. Our hope is to inspire pharmacists to push for innovations that will not only advance our profession, but ultimately improve health outcomes for our most vulnerable communities.

Last Sunday, VPhA members volunteered at the One Community (OC) Health Fair sponsored by Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do. We gave more than one hundred vaccines and helped many patients with medication reviews. Thanks to everyone who came and made this event successful. Thanks to Dr. Phuong-Trang Cao for always inviting VPhA to be a part of this wonderful event in the past few years.

This past Saturday, preceptors from VPhA, OCPhA, and OCSHP came together with students from Chapman, USC, WesternU, UCI, and MBKU to volunteer at the Hope Community Clinic. Altogether we administered more than 50 flu vaccines, checked blood glucose, measured blood pressure, and provided consultations to members of the Vietnamese community.

Also, thanks to Lifetime Value Pharmacy and Fountain Valley Central Pharmacy for their support.
