Some bugs are just out here acting like they pay rent.
Essential oils like citronella, lemongrass, lavender, rose geranium, and cypress have long been used in outdoor blends because their strong aromas are not exactly a warm welcome for mosquitoes, gnats, flies, moths, and other tiny freeloaders.
That said, essential oils are strong. Tiny bottle, big attitude.
⚠️ Safety Notes:
Essential oils should be diluted before applying to the skin. For adult topical use, a common general starting point is around 1 to 2% dilution, which is about 6 to 12 drops total essential oil per 1 ounce (30 mL) of carrier oil.
Carrier oils can include jojoba oil, fractionated coconut oil, castor oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, or another skin-safe oil. Jojoba and fractionated coconut oil tend to feel lighter. Castor oil is thicker and may feel heavier, but it can help a blend stay put longer.
Always look up the safe dilution rate for the specific essential oils you’re using, because some oils are stronger, more irritating, or not appropriate for everyone. Patch test first, avoid the eyes and sensitive areas, and use extra caution around children, pets, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and certain health conditions.
