Been a little MIA lately taking a break from social media and work. November starts back a NEW childbirth education series. I typically only offer one day courses but it's incredibly hard to squeeze everything into a one day 4 hour course so I've extended it! please share with your pregnant friends. I know you've heard me say it before but going into your birth (whether you're planning a medicated, unmedicated, home birth or hospital birth), education is the most important thing. It's so important to understand your options, what your body does, what your baby does, and how to navigate that. You can register on my website in my about info.

Being a small business owner means I get to make my schedule. My husband has a very unpredictable job as a power lineman, which means we sometimes have to take care of things here at the homestead all by ourselves. I'm grateful for my people who take care of my kiddos (and I) when I need it. Grateful to be a small business owner, but also grateful to make my family the first priority πŸ’œ I'm officially off call from a wild season of births and being called to focus my attention in other areas that are lacking for moms in our community. While I will still be open to adding birth doula clients, this is not my main focus. Thank you to all my past and present clients who support me, refer to me, and update me with all the baby pics. Stay tuned... 🫢

When a nurse says "there's my doula πŸ˜’" in a sarcastic, almost disgusted voice, as I walk past the nurses station (then all the other nurses stare at me), I know she needs lots of love. Because how could you hate someone who pours their heart into their work? Someone who helps women find their power? Who helps prevent trauma? Who shares evidence based information so patients are not coerced into decisions without knowing the benefits and risks? And two, girl, what? We are WOMEN supporting each other. Its hard enough to be a woman, and sly comments like that, just ain't it. What's that old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it all? I hope someone lovod on you after your shift because it sounds like you really needed some love πŸ’œ maybe you had a rough day, but I'm pretty fun and easy to get along with πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ so before you gawk and comment about a doula, get to know them and know that my only job is to support my client in whatever decision she makes. πŸ€”

Because post partum mental health is in the news a lot lately I thought I would touch on it from a different perspective. Some problems I see in my work that affect a mom's mental health:

The village isn't there.
Toxins affecting a mom before, during, and after pregnancy (toxic mold especially).
Nutritional/mineral deficiencies starting pre conception.
Unprocessed trauma.
Lack of sleep.
Breastfeeding problems.
Traumatic births and NICU stays.
Additional children.
And of course so many other things, these just top my list.

Walking into motherhood, I encourage all of my clients to understand the importance of prepping for post partum. Sometimes that includes helping them pre conception to set their bodies up for a normal, boring birth and post partum. Please reach out for help. You're not alone, giving birth and prepping for post partum is an investment. We've normalized spending 10s of 1,000s of dollars on weddings but not on the prep work for having babies. Find your village before babies, get out of your house and go talk to people. I promise you most moms would love to help and support you! Don't go through things alone. And of course if you develop signs of severe mental health issues and mental health issues that arent getting better, see a doctor. There's no shame in medication for a season of life.
