🗣️ Speech Word of the Day: Dysarthria

Dysarthria is a motor speech disorder that occurs when the muscles used for speech are weak or difficult to control. Speech may sound slurred, unusually slow or fast, soft, breathy, or strained.

An SLP can help improve communication by working on speech clarity, breathing, rate, loudness, and alternative communication methods when needed. đź’š

Sudden or unexplained changes in speech may require immediate medical attention.

For questions about our speech therapy services, contact First Step Therapy at đź“ž (340) 692-1515.

October is AAC Awareness Month! đź’ś

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It supports children and adults who need additional ways to communicate alongside speech or when speaking is difficult.

AAC comes in different forms, including picture boards, communication apps, and speech-generating devices. Devices can also be accessed in different ways by touching the screen, using switches, or using eye-gaze technology to select messages with eye movements!

At First Step Therapy, we celebrate every person’s right to communicate. Every message matters!

✨ SPECIAL OFFER: The first 5 inquiries will receive a FREE screening! ✨

Every child develops at their own pace, but sometimes a little extra support can make a difference. If you’re noticing ongoing concerns with your child’s speech, language, social communication, fluency, feeding, or swallowing, it may be time to connect with a Speech-Language Pathologist.

Early identification can help you better understand your child’s strengths and determine whether additional support may be beneficial.

đź’ś Come to First Step Therapy! Our team is here to answer your questions and help you take the next step.

đź“ž Call us at (340) 692-1515 to inquire about a screening.
