Congratulations to our Aboriginal Project Officer Chelsie, who received the Early Career Researcher Award at ASHM's Australasian Viral Hepatitis Conference 2026 in Fremantle, on Whadjuk Nyoongar Country.

Chelsie presented her research exploring hepatitis C reinfection and retreatment among Aboriginal people in custody, including work to ensure the voices and experiences of Aboriginal people directly inform future approaches to care.

We are exceptionally proud of Chelsie on this well-deserved recognition and her important contribution to improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal people in custody.

Our staff were out at Parklea Correctional Centre today as preparations continue for when the centre transitions to public management.

Justice Health NSW is a leader in custodial health services across Australia and internationally recognised for the work we do in caring for the most marginalised and vulnerable people in our community.

We’re making health information and systems simpler, clearer, and most importantly useful.

Today we’re launching a new world-leading health literacy video for people in custody, designed to help our patients better understand their health, know when and how to ask for help, and feel more confident making decisions about their care.

Because health literacy isn’t about knowing medical jargon.

It’s knowing what to do when something doesn’t feel right. Knowing how to access care. Understanding your medication. Asking questions. Following a treatment plan. And feeling confident enough to speak up about your health.
And importantly, it’s not just the patient’s responsibility.

Health literacy is everyone’s business, patients, health staff, and corrective services staff all have a role to play in making healthcare easier to understand and navigate.

It might only be a two-minute video, but the message is a big one!

When people understand their health, they’re better equipped to make choices that matter for themselves, their families, their mob, and their communities.

Justice Health NSW patients have once again showcased their creativity through the Incognito Art Show, a not-for-profit exhibition supporting Australian artists.

Each year, thousands of anonymous A5 artworks are displayed and sold for $100, with proceeds helping fund programs for artists living with disability.

Our Art Therapists supported 35 patients to submit artworks to this year’s exhibition at Carriageworks in Eveleigh, where their work was displayed alongside more than 15,000 other artists.

In an outstanding achievement, one patient’s artwork was selected for the Curators’ Top 200 from more than 38,000 submissions.

The result is a wonderful recognition of the talent, creativity and self-expression of our patients, as well as the important role art therapy can play in supporting wellbeing and recovery.

A big thank you to our Art Therapists for helping to make patient participation possible at this event.

From patient to peer worker 💙

Our very own Lived Experience Peer Worker Andrew knows forensic mental health from both sides.

Years ago, he experienced it as a patient. Today, he works within Justice Health NSW using that lived experience to help others find their own path to recovery.

Andrew recently joined iHeartRadio's Amanda Keller and Anita McGregor on the Double A Chattery podcast to talk openly about his journey through mental ill-health, the criminal justice system and forensic mental health care, and how those experiences now shape the way he supports our patients.

As a lived experience , Andrew connects with our patients in a way few others can.

He knows what it feels like to be vulnerable. To have people assessing you. To have to place your trust in a system when you may not want to be there.

And that matters.

Multiple roles are available, located at Bathurst Correctional Centre, Broken Hill Correctional Centre, Junee Correctional Centre and Parklea Correctional Centre.
