NEW EPISODE - I’m joined by Yoga Therapist Mandy Mona for a gentle and honest conversation about family, faith, motherhood, body image, grief, and how yoga became a lens through which she began to understand her life.
Mandy’s story begins in a large, creative, sports-loving family. She talks about growing up with siblings across different age gaps, being active from a young age, and having what, in many ways, looked like a full and busy childhood.
But there were also things that were not fully spoken about — including early family losses, questions around God and faith, and not having the language to understand grief when it first appeared in her life.
We also talk about young motherhood, relationship strain, addiction patterns in family life, body shame, work stress, and the difference between using movement as an outlet and discovering yoga as something much deeper.
For Mandy, yoga gradually became more than exercise. Through teacher training, treatment-centre work, and yoga therapy, it became a way to understand the body, emotions, breath, mental health, and the experiences people carry with them.
Later in the episode, Mandy shares the loss of her son, Tyson, during pregnancy, after first learning she had been carrying twins. She speaks about the shock of that loss, explaining grief to her children, and the ways her family continues to honour him.
We also talk about how to support someone who is grieving in practical ways — not asking them to know exactly what they need, but offering simple choices, presence, and care.
This is a quiet episode, but a deeply human one.
