As I get closer to becoming a mum I’m reflecting much more on the people who have shaped me in my own life journey, and what lessons I can bring forward to my daughter.

These are not just from my parents, but my friends parents, teachers, and other figures who have influenced me and the way I see the world, navigate challenges, build relationships, and care for others.

Some of these lessons were taught directly, through words and guidance. But others I learned through watching how someone has treated others, how they respond when life gets hard, what they prioritise, and the example they set every day.

Thirteen weeks away from meeting our little one, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for the wisdom, values, and love from my guiders that helped shape the person I am today. I can only hope to pass even a fraction of those lessons on ♥️

If you have a lesson that you’ve taken, comment it below because I’d love to know!

I had the pleasure of speaking at the on “Fuel for Focus - Nutrition For Busy Professionals” 🍳

In this talk some of the things we spoke about were:

➡️ Why starting your day with a high protein + high fibre breakfast can completely change your energy and focus

➡️ Why balanced, sustainable eating will always outperform fad diets

➡️ Meal prepping as one of the simplest hacks for eating well consistently

➡️ And one of my favourite mindset shifts - treating yourself like someone you care for. You’d make sure a child had breakfast and packed food for the day… so why not yourself?

Nutrition is less complicated when you’re knowledgeable and prepared. Often it’s the small daily or weekly habits that we set that create the biggest shifts in how we feel, think, and perform.

I also run workplace wellness talks and workshops like this for companies, gyms, businesses, and community groups looking to support the health and wellbeing of their teams.

The blood sugar roller coaster !

Aka why you might be experiencing energy crashes, brain fog, irritability, or anxiety throughout your work day.

Blood sugar regulation has a huge impact on both our energy and mood. When we rely on quick, high-carbohydrate, low-fibre foods instead of balanced meals with protein and fibre, we can end up stuck in the cycle of mid-morning and mid-afternoon slumps, reaching for even more sugary snacks to get through the day.

Setting yourself up with high-protein, high-fibre breakfasts, lunches, and snacks can help support steadier energy, improved focus, and more balanced moods throughout the day.

Loved presenting my talk “Nutrition for Busy Professionals” for the !

Pregnancy scared the absolute s**t out of me for years. I thought it would be quite literally the most terrifying moment of my life. I also thought I would never feel the same way about my body - and not in a good way. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I have never felt anything more natural, more primal, more driven by the universe, by god, by spirit, than growing life.

My body doesn’t look the same. I am squishy. I am feeling less proportioned, and the work I have put in to my training is showing less and less. I am puffier and my hips are squishing out of the side of my pants. And I literally couldn’t care.

My doula told me that I am a portal to another dimension. My body is a portal that allows another soul to enter into this earth realm. And I think that’s pretty cool.

I will honour that with kindness. With patience. With gratitude. The female body is incredible and we are so, so much more than the constant societal pressure to be thin or thick or perfectly toned. We are a force of freaking nature.

Four days ago I completed my first half marathon.

This was a goal I had already set before finding out I was pregnant. After learning that running in pregnancy was not only safe, but beneficial for myself and my baby to continue, I decided to lock in and make it an even bigger goal - my first 21ks, at 22 weeks pregnant 🤰

What I truly gained from this experience though was not what I expected. I thought it would be a sense of accomplishment, a growth in drive and mental toughness, and it was, but it was so much more.

Committing to a big goal with a friend was the first thing. The connection, the accountability, the laughs, the shared struggles. It drove us forward together and healed me more than running alone ever could. I’d do anything on my own if I wanted to, but I never want to again.

The next thing - was the act of showing up. A marathon would be literally nothing, without the thousands of supporters who showed up for their loved ones. I literally hyperventilated with gratitude after seeing my best friend and my besties mum supporting us. Then being cheered on by strangers. In the months leading up to this, knowing how beautiful it felt to be supported, I started showing up so much more to support the smaller things for my friends. We truly are kids at heart, standing on stage with our merit award and looking around to find our people in the crowd.

The next - the power of a large community. Halfway through pregnancy and I ran my longest run, faster than my average pace, because I was running with thousands of others. People playing music, runners supporting one another, the feeling of being a part of something. The human experience of shared passion is something so pure.

Completing this goal was magic to me for so many more reasons than I could ever have seen coming. I will forever sign myself up, say yes, and do the things that scare me, because these are what shape us more than staying where it’s comfortable 🏃‍♀️

I am loving life right now, not tracking calories, enjoying a little bit of creativity and freedom with my food whilst keeping an eye on my intake of fibre and protein. Could always include more vegetables in as most likely could everyone, but really just soaking in the bliss of tasty food and sweets treats to fuel my body whilst I train and grow a tiny human !

The biggest shift with the new weight loss drug retatrutide (in development and not yet medically approved), is the addition of the glucagon receptor agonist.

This makes it the first triple agonist weight loss drug of its kind, working across GLP-1, GIP, and now glucagon. The addition of glucagon can help mobilise stored fuel and shift the body toward a more energy-burning state, adding another layer beyond appetite suppression alone.

It’s a small tweak with potentially big implications for how we approach fat loss and metabolic health.

Episode #87 of The Heal My Health Podcast - Choline & Child Neurodevelopment: Why This Essential Nutrient Matters During Pregnancy & Lactation

Choline is a beautiful nutrient to focus on and possibly supplement during pregnancy and lactation. It plays an important role in:

→ building brain cells
→ forming key neurotransmitters
→ supporting memory + learning pathways
→ and even influencing gene expression

Now we have research showing that higher maternal choline intake may be associated with better outcomes in memory, attention, and learning in children !
