We’ve been following the journey of Polyspine from the very beginning, and it’s one that’s incredibly close to our hearts 💙

With a personal connection to Riley’s mum, it’s been truly inspiring to watch Riley and his dad Clint turn an idea into something so innovative and meaningful.

Polyspine is a world-first concept—designed as a lightweight, portable, and no-fuss solution to help create more accessible environments. Its modular design, custom-fit harness, and water-friendly materials open the door to greater freedom, comfort, and even water-based activities for users.

But more than that, it’s about inclusion.

It’s about changing the way we think in the disability space and creating opportunities for people to participate more fully in everyday life.

We love seeing innovation like this making a real difference, and we’re so proud to support and share their journey.

If you haven’t already, go check them out and see the incredible work they’re doing 👏

“Having access to the NDIS meant Peter could return to his community, his country and able to be surrounded by family and friends really helped his recovery,” she said. “Without the NDIS it wouldn’t be possible for most First Nations community members,” she added.

Stories like Peter’s show just how powerful the right support can be. Being connected to culture, community, and loved ones isn’t just important—it’s essential to wellbeing and recovery. The NDIS continues to play a vital role in making this possible for many First Nations people across Australia.

There has been significant attention on a recent article published by Australian Financial Review regarding NDIS funding, and it’s important to address how misleading the narrative is.

The article frames certain supports—such as community access, social outings, and everyday activities—as unnecessary or frivolous spending. What it fails to recognise is the purpose behind these supports.

For many NDIS participants, these moments are not simply “hanging out” or leisure. They are:
• Essential for maintaining mental health and emotional wellbeing
• Opportunities for social connection, often their only interaction outside their immediate environment
• A critical form of respite for families and carers providing 24/7 support

Reducing these supports to superficial spending ignores the lived reality of participants and the intent of the NDIS—to support people to live meaningful, connected lives.

Let’s also be clear: the sector does not deny that misuse of funds exists. However, the ongoing narrative that places blame primarily on participants is both unfair and unbalanced.

The responsibility must also sit with the system itself. The National Disability Insurance Agency oversees a framework that has, at times, allowed fraudulent practices by providers and organisations to continue. Many within the sector have repeatedly raised concerns and offered practical solutions to reduce this—but these calls often go unanswered.

At the same time, it is worth noting the scale of administrative and legal expenditure. The NDIA reportedly spent approximately $34.8 million on legal fees for Administrative Appeals Tribunal matters in 2020–21, and almost $22 million the year prior.

Yet the focus remains on scrutinising participants.

NDIS participants should never be made to feel “less than” for accessing supports that are deemed reasonable and necessary for their wellbeing. A more balanced and transparent conversation is needed—one that acknowledges both system accountability and the real value these supports provide.

A rise in the cost of community support like cafe visits and assistance with dog walks is driving a significant blowout of the scheme’s overall budget.

🌊 Making Waves for Inclusion at Cronulla Beach 🏄‍♂️

The annual Wave Warriors event at Cronulla Beach continues to make a huge difference for local families, giving children with mobility challenges and complex medical needs the chance to experience the joy of the ocean.

For many families, a simple trip to the beach can be incredibly difficult due to accessibility barriers. Wave Warriors changes that. With adaptive equipment, trained volunteers and plenty of community support, children who might otherwise never have the opportunity can safely get into the water, catch a wave, and enjoy the magic of the beach. 💙

Events like this remind us how powerful community can be when everyone comes together to create inclusive spaces where every child can participate, have fun and build unforgettable memories.

A huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers, supporters and local surf community who help make this incredible day possible each year.

Under NDIS legislation, providers are required to report any reportable incident within 24 hours.

Staying informed is essential. We strongly recommend that providers, participants, and representatives follow the NDIS Commission’s page to keep up to date with current and relevant NDIS information, updates, and compliance requirements.

Being proactive helps ensure quality, safety, and accountability across the sector.

NDIS providers must act swiftly to report and manage serious incidents.

Under NDIS legislation, registered providers must notify the Commission within 24 hours of first becoming aware of serious incidents connected to NDIS supports. This includes:

🚨 death or serious injury of a person with disability
🚨 abuse or neglect
🚨 unlawful sexual or physical contact, or assault
🚨 sexual misconduct against, or in the presence of, a person with disability.

These requirements also apply to alleged incidents.

Reports must fully document the incident and actions taken to protect the participant's safety and wellbeing. Submissions are made via the Registered Providers Portal: https://bit.ly/4jniWG2.

Delays in reporting or failure to notify the Commission can result in enforcement action including fines, banning orders, or other compliance measures.

For guidance on reportable incidents and provider obligations, visit https://bit.ly/4ai48UR.

Today we’re celebrating a historic milestone in inclusive education! 🎉❤️

For the first time in Australia, a Deafblind support class has been created in a mainstream public school at Tenambit Primary in regional NSW, after a mum spent two years advocating for her son’s right to learn and belong. 👏🏽✨

Four-year-old Ari Bennett, who is both deaf and blind, can now attend his local school with the support he needs — including tactile sign language and a learning support officer — to participate in class just like his peers. This breakthrough is a powerful step toward making education truly accessible for all children, regardless of ability. 👩🏻‍🏫🤲📚

Advocates say no parent should have to fight full-time for their child to be included, and that this achievement shows what’s possible when schools and systems commit to inclusion. 💛
