It was a slow start in January for my 2,022km running goal for the year. However, yesterday I reached the 500km milestone. Back on target. Fueling up for long runs is key to feeling good. Yesterday's fuel:

- 1 Banana
- Blackberries and raspberries with greek yogurt
- 4 eggs on toast
- Salmon and roasted asparagus
- Black coffee with protein powder
- Large slice of cheesy pizza 😃😬
- Water. Lots of water.

This month has been a big motivator for me!! I have been able to talk with and assist a couple clients in their 2022 weight loss journey. Rather than focusing so much on the scale, they've put into practice mindful eating habits and learning how their body responds to certain food choices. 🍏 We still have a week left in January but since the turn of the new year, we've seen a combined 18.2 lbs of weight loss for Team Rem 👊😜 . . . AND with more energy for workouts and motivation levels on the rise! I'm so excited to see what is in store this year for everyone looking to make 2022 a healthy one. I hope to not only help motivate my peers but... they have actually been motivating me to stay the course and hold me accountable too. Let's get healthy together! 💪

Underlying health issues coupled with being overweight has been a big contributing factor to severe illness and even death from covid. We learned this fairly early on in the pandemic. Aside from the normal every day precautions we take, losing weight should be a #1 priority for everyone, even if you are just a bit heavier than you like to be. For me, the struggle is maintaining an average weight (or high average Andrea Carver 😉 ) . Focusing on less processed foods and getting creative with high nutrient dense whole foods will assist in your weight loss. Holding yourself accountable to friends and family can also be very effective. We have tons of resources at our fingertips these days to help us reach our goals. Let 2022 be the year you finally make nutrition your #1 priority to get healthy, lose extra pounds, and fuel your workouts. I personally made this decision in 2019 to lose 80 pounds and finally reached my goal in 2021 (this past summer). It's up there with being one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. "I regret eating healthy and losing pounds," said NO ONE EVER. 😎

Nutrition goes far beyond calories in and calories out. Certain foods we eat and when we eat them will constantly influence the many hormones in our body. It can raise and lower our BMR readings, change the way we burn those calories - glucose vs fat - and even change our quality of life. It's important to balance these hormones the best we can through a healthy and well balanced diet! 🍌🍎

Processed meats make it easy for us to throw together a ham or boloney sandwich for lunch, for example. When we consume that day in and day out, it can have an adverse effect on our long term health, such as inflammation. These days I stay away from packaged sliced meats. An alternative to that is baking off a flat of chicken breast and slicing it up. Store enough in the fridge for a few days and use chicken slices for your sandwiches. Swap out the white bread with whole wheat and you've made a great improvement to your health! 👊

Eating healthy is not always about will power and begrudgingly running away from certain foods at every turn. A lot can be accomplished by forming habits. Understanding that habits are a regular tendency to practice something without giving much thought to it, you can see that it is actually on the opposite side of the spectrum than pure will power. Habits take time to form and is not a switch we can turn on or off instantly.

So what sort of simple habits can we begin to form that will lead us to healthy eating...?? Feel free to share what works for you. 🙂
