Identifying what doesn’t move is the first step toward solving the problem of sciatica. The best way to alleviate most sciatica pain is to do any stretch that can externally rotate the hip to provide some relief.

Try out these exercises to get pain-relief and improved movement.

PRECAUTIONS:
● DO NOT assume that you’ll be as flexible as the exercises ideally call for. STOP if you have any kind of pain.
● ADJUST the positions slightly, such as pulling your knees in more or less and NOTICE how they feel.

Sciatica happens when irritation, inflammation, pinching or compression affect the sciatic nerve (one or more nerves that run down your lower back and into your legs).

There are two types of sciatica:

Sciatica symptoms can include:
● Pain
● Tingling or “pins and needles” (paresthesia)
● Numbness
● Muscle Weakness
● Urinary incontinence or f***l incontinence

Conditions that can cause sciatica include:

● Spinal stenosis
● Foraminal stenosis
● Spondylolisthesis
● Osteoarthritis
● Injuries
● Pregnancy
● Tumors, cysts or other growths

Hip pain is a common cause of discomfort in athletes and can be a frustrating problem to treat.

✔️ Overuse of your hip joint can put excess pressure on your bursae, causing bursitis where the bursae become inflamed and swollen.

✔️ The labrum of the hip is a cuff of thick tissue that surrounds the hip socket which helps support the hip joint. When a labral tear of the hip occurs, a piece of this tissue can become pinched in the joint, causing pain and "catching" sensations with movement.

✔️ Muscle strains can be due to fatigue, overuse, or the improper use of a muscle. The failure to warm up before exercise also contributes to the problem.

✔️ Arthritis of the hips is increasingly seen in older athletes who may have already endured injuries during their sports career.

✔️ The iliotibial (IT) band is a stretch of connective tissue that runs along the outer side of your body from the top of your thigh to your knee. Overuse when running can cause it to become tight, irritated and inflamed.

Hip pain is a common complaint of athletes in many different sports. Stay tuned for some easy exercises to help alleviate hip pain.

The most common complaint in the foot and ankle region is heel pain. Although most of these are related to plantar fasciitis, upto 20% of cases of chronic heel pain are caused by Baxter's nerve entrapment.

It is caused by entrapment of the of the inferior calcaneal nerve, also commonly known as “Baxter’s nerve” originating from the lateral plantar nerve, close to the bifurcation of the tibial nerve. It runs from the inside of the heel, under the arch of the foot to the outer heel.

The following signs or symptoms may indicate Baxter’s nerve entrapment in the foot:
• Chronic pain on the inside of the heel.
• A radiating or burning pain under the heel.
• In long standing cases, there can be numbness in the outside (lateral) part of the heel or foot.
• Symptoms are often worse following activity.

Treatment for Baxter’s nerve entrapment is aimed at treating the cause and reducing the compression or damage to the Baxter’s nerve.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is an entrapment neuropathy caused by compression of the median nerve as it travels through the wrist's carpal tunnel.

Early symptoms include:
✔ Pain
✔ Numbness
✔ Paresthesias

Symptoms typically present, with some variability, in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and the radial half (thumb side) of the ring finger. With further progression, hand weakness, decreased fine motor coordination, clumsiness, and thenar atrophy can occur.

The most common causes of carpal tunnel syndrome include genetic predisposition, history of repetitive wrist movements such as typing or machine work, as well as obesity, autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, and pregnancy.

Initial corrective measures include proper hand ergonomics like placing the keyboard at a proper height and minimizing flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction of the hand when typing. Often simple alterations to the working practice can be beneficial in controlling milder symptoms of CTS.
