🔊SOUND ON🔊 Listen as this Western Diamondback Rattlesnake rattles its tail. the rattlesnake rattle is made of keratin, the same thing that our hair and nails are made of.

The rattling sound is made when the snake moves its tail and the hollow rattle segments clash together. This sound is a warning mechanism to let you know of their presence and that you may be getting a little too close.

It’s important to keep in mind rattlesnakes won’t always rattle as they want to avoid an encounter with us or predators. This is why being observant of your surroundings and watching where you place your hands/feet is important.

If you hear a sound like this, move away to create a safe distance between you and the snake. If you encounter a snake on your property, your local fire department may relocate it for free or you may use local removal services (fees may apply).

Today marks the start of monsoon season in Arizona. This can bring a spike in carbon monoxide poisonings due to improper usage of generators and grills, and sitting in vehicles to charge mobile devices or for air conditioning during power outages.

To prevent a carbon monoxide poisoning:
➡Install carbon monoxide detectors in your home, on each floor and near sleeping areas. Utilize battery powered detectors during power outages.
➡Do not use generators or charcoal/gas grills indoors.
➡Use generators at least 20 feet away from the home and away from doors/windows.
➡Avoid sitting a car with the engine on, even with the garage door open. Prepare in advance by using portable charging banks to charge mobile devices.

If you suspect a carbon monoxide poisoning, get to fresh air and contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. Seek medical attention immediately for severe symptoms.

Button batteries are associated with hundreds of visits to the emergency department each year; a majority of visits involve children. When button batteries are swallowed and make contact with saliva or moist tissue, such as the esophagus, a chemical reaction occurs resulting in burns and injury.

Some items that contain button batteries include: air tags, toys, wireless game controllers, musical greeting cards, keyless entry remotes, and smart home devices.

To prevent an ingestion:
🔋Keep products with button batteries away from the reach of children.
🔋Ensure battery compartments are tightly closed. If a device's battery compartment is damaged, immediately repair or discard of the product.
🔋Monitor children while they play with toys that contain batteries.
🔋Keep all spare batteries stored locked and away from the reach of children.

Button battery ingestion requires medical evaluation. If you suspect an ingestion, seek medical attention immediately. Do NOT induce vomiting or attempt to give anything to eat or drink as this could cause more harm.
