Community of Peer Support Specialists Our community is dedicated to establishing, practicing and advancing peer support in Singapore. Welcome to the Community Of Peer Support Specialists.

Peer Support in the mental health scene is a relatively new discipline in Singapore. So far 5 batches of peers in recovery have officially graduated from the course and have become Certified Peer Support Specialists. We have come together to build this community in hopes of furthering the presence of Peer Support in recovery. Some of us are working with the Institute of Mental Health. Others are w

orking with hospitals, government bodies, non-profit organizations, MNCs and even volunteering, as we go about recovering from mental health issues ourselves. We hope to become a beacon of hope for fellow peers in recovery as well as fight the stigma against mental health challenges. The acronym for our core values spell out HUMAN. Hope
Unity
Mutuality
Authenticity
acceptance N understanding

Today is World Mental Health Day.

This year the theme for World Mental Health Day is “Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority “

Here’s the last of the 7 ways of how we can prioritize our mental health that I can relate much to by Bella Gerard. But it’s also the hardest thing to do but crucial to one’s mental health.

7. Let Go Of Regrets & Anger

You will be forever tense if you carry anger, sadness and regrets with you—it’s time to LET GO. Forgive and forget, and allow yourself the serenity that comes with not being plagued by negative memories.

1 in 4 people in the world are living with a mental health condition. Some of them could be a family member, your student, your employee, a colleague or a friend.

Let’s support them by first understanding them. We can help break the stigma.

Happy 57th National Day, Singapore!

It's a good day to reflect on how far we have come as a nation and also as an individual. No country is perfect, but expressing our gratitude helps to improve our mental well-being.

CPSS Team Building Retreat was held in May 2022 at PSALT Care Betsy's Place. We had a fun-filled day filled with entertaining and educational segments.

We kicked off the day with a human bingo game, followed by an Art Journaling Activity based on our Personality Type. After lunch, a member shared about her Effective Weight Loss experience, in conjunction with the launch of CPSS Active Lifestyle Campaign.

Wrapping up the official programme, 3 of our peers shared their strengths and hopes with us through their Recovery Stories. The rest of the day continues with bonding over coffee and a movie.

As part of our continuous improvement, we attended Life Training in Su***de Prevention by Caring For Life. One key takeaway is to remember that su***de is not a crime. Instead of using "committed su***de", let's replace with recovery language such as "attempted to take (their) own life".

Yes, please don't say "commit" when it comes to su***de; it's not a sin, even if that's clearly where the use of the word may have come from ("he committed a sin"). It perpetuates the stigma.

This is a helpful guide for mental health language if you are unsure. Please share this far and wide so we can all be more informed and therefore contribute to destigmatising mental health and su***de. Thank you!

Do you sometimes struggle with expressing how you really feel? "Expressing emotions is complicated and challenging — sometimes annoying — a task that leaves countless people overwhelmed and more confused than the feelings.

The Wheel of Emotions is a simple chart that offers a visual representation of primary emotions, revealing the different degrees and complexities of varied feelings. It is meant to help individuals to identify how they are feeling."

Next time when you find yourself struggling with explaining how you feel, you can use the Wheel of Emotions as a guide to talking it through.

Happy International Women's Day! The ladies in our CPSS leadership committee and peer community have shown us that "there is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish," as quoted from Michelle Obama.

Recovery is about being resilience, having a sense of purpose and bouncing forward to being a better version of ourselves.
