Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy for adults can be life-changing!
This 29 year-old male sought out myofunctional therapy for his speech difficulties (trouble projecting his voice, mumbling when speaking fast), and associated mouth, throat, jaw, and neck tension due to compensations. He had already tried speech therapy and a vocal coach with limited results.
He had mid-tongue restriction (posterior tongue tie) which was treated with a functional frenuloplasty after 4 sessions of therapy.
The total therapy plan consisted of 14 sessions over the course of 5 months.
He was diligent with his daily therapy exercise practice and made some amazing improvements not only with his speech but also his overall health!

Before:
❌ Trouble projecting voice + mumbling when speaking quickly
❌ Mouth, throat, jaw & neck tension
❌ Limited range of motion
❌ Daytime fatigue
❌ Tongue thrust swallowing pattern

After:

graduation photo dump... I'm still processing how amazing the last 9 months have been, culminating this past weekend with a fun 2-day graduation event

To say this course is transformative is not an overstatement. Our cohort was filled with some of the most caring, passionate, creative, and brilliant humans. It was fun to meet everyone in person after seeing them online every week for the last 9 months! Friendships were formed and collaborative work is already taking place.

I had the opportunity to share some astrology (another passion of mine) with the group as we celebrated our accomplishments. The composite chart for Myo Masterminds Cohort 5 perfectly mirrored the connections we made and our vision for the future! ✨
A personal achievement and highlight for this self-admitted anti-promoter was being awarded the "golden mic" for my elevator pitch!🎤 Boom!

I am thankful for the support of Dr. Alpa Merchant , she and her husband Nirav came out to CA to support me and celebrate with our class!

So excited to share this young client's fantastic results!

She started orofacial myofunctional therapy at 6 years old (May 2023), Myobrace was started 7 months later (Jan 2024). She now has improved tongue posture and is breathing through her nose a majority of the time (up from 0% at the start of therapy).

Other details on this case:
There is mid-tongue restriction, but a release was not performed.
Tonsils and adenoids are enlarged, tonsilloadenoidectomy was recommended by ENT but has not been done.
Allergies were identified and are being addressed.

This isn't the end of her story, but she is well on her way to a healthier, THRIVING future!

We are excited to be partnering with Dr. Alpa Merchant to launch the Tucson Airway Providers (TAP) study club! This is an interdisciplinary group of licensed practitioners who want to learn more about the world of breathing and sleep, and treat patients/clients with an airway focused approach.

We are hoping to have a diverse group of providers including dentists, orthodontists, medical doctors of all specialties (including holistic & naturopathic, PA & NP), PT, OT, CST, massage therapists, chiropractors, dietitians & nutritionists, SLP, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapists, and mental health providers.
