🩺You don’t need to be a good patient.
First of all (Assuming that your are in a low risk pregnancy) you are NOT not sick. Pregnancy and childbirth are not illnesses.
👩🏽⚕️🧑🏽⚕️It is OK to deny interventions or care, request a new nurse/OB, or break hospital policy. You will not get in trouble- I promise! Advocating what’s best for your baby starts in the delivery room. The worst thing that will happen is that you’ll p**s someone off.
During my birth they wanted me to put my feet in stirrups but I refused. The nurse snapped back, “why not?”. The staff was obviously irritated but so was I! I shouldn’t have to explain myself.
👉🏽There were also times in my birth where I gave in and compromised when I didn’t have to. Sometimes it happens and that’s ok too. We do the best we can in the moment.
*This also applies to fertility treatments. Always ask questions! Do your research and speak up if you feel like something isn’t working for you!
Was there a time that you weren’t a “good” patient?
