No wishy, washy vague references, mentions or naming that can't be fully traced or verified - and tells you why, as time passes, these pilina/relationships, are important.

Whilst there's a few spelling errors (as taught to us by Kumu Nui Lawrence, Anakala Pilipo and Anake Harriet Ne), the imagery does the talking as much as the words ... and confirms for you the authenticity of what we teach ...

⭐TRAINING: Hālau-level training is not like "doing a course":

🌿 Starting Sunday 23 August Oli ʻELUA - 2, the second layer of Beginners Oli. Beginners Oli is learned in 3 Stages. Here haumāna apply what they learned in Oli ʻekahi - 1 to new Oli and add a new Teaching to build their foundation and make it paʻa. The Kumus are excited to see how students progress at this layer. The learning theme is Giving Voice to a Culture.

🌿 Path to Paʻa - the Foundation Cultural and Spiritual Teachings for all Hawaiian Healing: 20 October. If you have only learned in a "westernised" school, it is likely these are missing from your learning. This training, like all our training, is at the Hālau-level. If you donʻt understand the importance of this training in your work as a Practitioner, then thatʻs the reason to do the Training with us.

If you want to learn Oli - we may hold another Oli ʻekahi - 1 at the end of the year. DM or email Kumu Nālani.

⭐ NEW PRACTITIONER ARTICLE: Is Lomilomi Just a Massage?

The simple answer is Yes, it’s the Hawaiian method. But that’s not the real question.

• What makes it Hawaiian?
• And, what makes it Lomilomi?

⭐ WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

Teaching Oli I and Hawaiian Studies Community Classes, supporting the establishment of the Irish Hālau, opening my Clinic in a new location, updating the next Path to Paʻa Training (which starts on 1 September) as well as Oli 2 - Beginners Training (mid-August), and working on a super-secret project!

But I'm here today to share something with you ...

A reminder about Cultural Misappropriation and Appropriation ...
.. a video shared with me: two non-Hawaiian wāhine dressed in what looked like Native American apparel, using Indigenous musical instruments, while talking about taking a group to Hawaiʻi.

Can you see the larger issue?

We understand they mean well and want to do good things but ... there is so much to unpack - impossible in a social media post.

So this oneʻs about Awareness.

🌿Sadly many Practitioners don't recognise what Cultural Misappropriation looks like. Let me help:

Last year at my Kumu's hale, another Kumu and her Alakaʻi arrived. They stood outside and offered Kahea before entering. We welcomed them with Komo.

🌿The point is: even as Hawaiians, you don't simply arrive on an island that isn't yours, or in a place where you haven't been invited, and begin doing your own thing.

🌿When I opened my new practice, I first asked the Kūpuna/Elders of that place for permission.

🌿When I went to Ireland to teach, there was Protocol with the Elder of that Place before any teaching began.

Our Lineage is committed to education, and why my own Hālau has taken the kuleana of teaching non-Hawaiian Practitioners of Hawaiian Healing.

🌿As Anakala Pilipo, our 49th Generation said, "How will they understand us if we don't educate them?"

We share because he gave permission. Otherwise, we would not be teaching beyond Hālawa Valley.

🌿My hope for you as a Practitioner is you pause and think more deeply about what youʻre doing, and the possible impact and hurt.

Once you begin to recognise what Cultural Misappropriation and Appropriation looks like, you begin to understand how important Protocol, Permission, Pilina/relationship and Cultural Context really are in Hawaiian Spirituality and the work you do ... Aloha, Kumu Nālani 🌺❤️xu

⭐ LEARNING TIME! When you watch this video, "How Hawaiian Rebels are Rebuilding an Ancient Food Paradise," it invites you to look past the postcards and tourist centres. 🌿

Many of you feel a deep affection for Hawaii, but do you truly understand it? The "love" you feel IS the vast, sophisticated knowledge systems of the Ancestors—where everything is connected, and nothing is separate.

🌿When you go to Hawaiiʻs city and towns and look up at the mauna, do you just see a physical landscape, or do you see the "unseen"? In the valley of Halawa on Molokai—where my lineage comes from—this Ancestral thinking is fully alive.

You can see it, taste it, smell it and feel it. That is Pilina—the web of relationships that underpins all of Hawaiian life, including Lomilomi and Hoʻoponopono. They are birthed from this place. Theyʻre not standalone practices; they are direct extensions of this relational system.

• Can you see the direct relationship between these ancestral structures and what you do in Lomilomi and Hoʻoponopono?

• Is this what you were taught?

For non-Hawaiian Practitioners, getting to this depth of 'ike is possible. Physical strokes are just the gateway, what you need is what is discussed here.

If you canʻt see it, or if it's not yet paʻa within you, it is your responsibility to learn more to get there.

To offer authentic Hawaiian Lomilomi, you must understand the ecosystem of knowledge it belongs to.
