As founder of DiSens and author of the Disability Handbook, I was invited to participate in “From Crip Camp to Science Park: Finding the power of community”, part of Faces of Science Park and in collaboration with the UvA Disability Working Group. After screening Crip Camp, a critically acclaimed documentary on the 504 movement, we discussed how its arguments apply to the UvA Science Park campus. From ways to raise awareness to ones to improve accessibility in various aspects of the university, the discussion was enriched with input from the audience and first-hand testimonies.

To launch the series of Savoir events, DiSens has collaborated with the AUC Diversity Commission (.auc) to organise the lecture “Disability, Capability & Biases at AUC”. It was the opportunity to explore what having a disability as a student in higher education means and the predominant biases present in such an environment. We concluded with a Q&A session and cinematic references to learn more on the topic.
