Some of the magic that happens in here (in order of who creates the most and their specialties):

Justin : Makes a killer bolognese and penne vodka among many others!

Lindsay: Known to concoct some sort of vegetarian surprise, bake something sweet, or combine the two by adding veggies to the sweets (which usually doesn’t go over very well 😆)

Bryson : the French toast king, otherwise he just puts Nutella on other foods and calls it a day 😬

Dylan : Shoestring fries and potato chips in the deep fryer (the house smells for weeks after 😖)

Metabolic testing with Indirect Calorimetry

Metabolic rate is a measure of how much food is converted to energy in a day. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the measurement of how much food, or energy, is required to maintain basic body functions such as heartbeat, breathing, and maintenance of body heat while at rest. That energy is expressed in calories per day. So an RMR test shows how many calories you burn at rest, doing nothing more than sitting in a chair.

Indirect calorimetry (a measurement of metabolic rate) relies on the fact that burning 1 calorie (Kilocalorie) requires 208.06 milliliters of oxygen. Because of this very direct relationship between caloric burn and oxygen consumed, measurements of oxygen uptake (VO2) and caloric burn rate are virtually interchangeable.

Indirect calorimetry is considered the gold standard to measure RMR, is FDA approved and might be reimbursable through some health insurances under CPT code #94690

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) & Resting Energy Expenditure (REE) are two terms used when referring to the calories burned at rest. These calories are used for cellular function, hormone production, breathing, heart beating….all the things you need to exist….this is your metabolism, basically.

BMR/REE accounts for about 70% of total calorie burn each day!

In comparison, exercise accounts for only about 10% of calorie burn, and day-to-day activities outside of exercise about 20%

Clients who work with me learn what their BMR/REE is through indirect calorimetry (a 10-minute breathing test) and then we set goals focusing on the ways to improve this number over time.

You get the biggest bang for your buck when you optimize metabolism!
